People who wanted him gone must have a limited knowledge of football. You don’t ship players out with a record like he’s got! One of the best lower league forwards out there!

Still a lot of learning to do for Jake and he'll be hit and miss but we've definitely got a player there if we can help him achieve his potential.trevor, Allotment Bantam, Tennesseebantam and 5 others like this. -

He did it with a first time shot with a ball angled towards him, which makes it extra difficult.
Because of Cook, we won 3 points.
Today was a tough one for him, because he was up against some big defenders, and that actually suited Oliver when he came on; but Cook still did the business.Get Rid Of It, bantamdave41, Bronco and 5 others like this. -

If I'm really critical of City fans, it's this need to want to repeat mistakes of the past.
Rahic came in and chopped and changed the manager every verse end. Ever since, City have repeated that, with the backing of the fans.
It hasn't worked until now, and it won't work.
Similarly, last season we struggled because we had only one fit centre forward for most of the season. So what happens? We sign Oliver, and the cries are that Cook has to go.
Do we not learn? Having one forward was a mistake. Switching managers all the time was a mistake. Let's hope Hughes has put an end to these poor practices.Onside, Kevin1954, Wakefield Bantam and 4 others like this. -

I'll put my tin hat on now but much of what Fordy says about Cook is absolutely correct. But let's just consider how we've gone about building our team for this season. Hughes wants to play 4231 and when he arrives he sees Cook isn't up to playing the lone striker role. So he plays Angol there, fairly successfully. Then over the summer he tells Cook to lose weight to become more mobile. To his credit Cook does but meanwhile our recruitment looks for forwards to play our system. And who do we get? Oliver and Harratt, neither of whom can play the role required and the former given a three year contract. Astonishing. And, surprise surprise, neither have had other than fleeting appearances. We have a mediocre start, Cook comes on at Barrow and scores. Then he goes on to score a lot more and we're flying. But we're not really because it's early season and teams are still settling down. Defensive partnerships were still being put together and they soon cottoned on to the fact that if they mark Cook tightly he's ineffective so they have done and the goals have dried up. Cook is brilliant at taking chances put on a plate for him but that's it. He is virtually immobile and creates nothing for himself. In our system it's crucial that the front man moves around to pull defenders out of position and create space for others to exploit but this isn't happening and, in turn, it makes it easier to negate our wide players. And so the goals have disappeared. It's no good saying that others should be contributing. If you have a static front man the chances just won't be there. Our only alternative is Angol but he seems so obsessed with protecting his hamstring he's half the player he could be. I'd play him instead of Cook anyway and tell him if he doesn't really give it a go his career's finished so what has he got to lose. Replacing Cook with Oliver is pointless. He and Harratt will only be effective in a different system, which again begs the question, why on earth did we sign them?
Sorry for the long post. Just needed to get it off my chest. And I never even got onto our midfield.Bumblebee_Tuna, Rocket, Inspector and 4 others like this. -

I was in the minority that wanted him to stay. Call me old fashioned but with only one striker usually on the pitch I much prefer one that can put the ball in the net.
"Presence", for me, is vastly, nay, massively vastly (doesn't even make sense I know but you get the drift) over rated.baggers, JonButterfield, trevor and 3 others like this. -

We need goals from all over the park. Unfortunately with the way we set up, we're only creating two or three chances per game. It's a miracle Cook has 6 goals already. When was the last time an away keeper was put under pressure with shots coming in at all angles?
On past experience Cook tends to score in batches then has a drought. It's during this time that we need others to step up. It seems an age since we've had one striker competing against the other to become to leading scorer. We need them to be hungry to score and not look to play with their back to goal. Be unpredictable like Nahki or Blake used to be and shoot from distance, instead of the slow predictable pass, pass, pass for the sake of it.Jayteebee, Bantam-in-Greece, The Evidence and 3 others like this. -

Seriously Cook has done extremely well and knuckled down. Hats off to him because I thought he would become a bench warmer when thinking mid season . (Based purely on his performances at the back end of last season.)

It’s hilarious we are discussing Cook keeping his place. We have moaned about a striker for years and we now have one. Very unlucky with Eisa, Walker and others. Vaughan and Doyle did not do better than Cook. So I am enjoying him chatting on Sky and to be fair scoring some cracking goals. I wish he did approach play. Run at defenders win every header… I also wish I had a washboard tummy and a fringe. Enjoy him boys we will miss him when he goes…,cmon city
