Andy Cook

Of course 1 in 4 is the issue when the thread was posted there was nothing but praise for Cook its only lately we've started to struggle scoring that some question his place in the team, and to say his presence in the box doesn't cause defenders a problem is nonsense, I forget who the team were the other week but he had to change his shirt at half-time as the two opposition CD almost ripped it off trying to cope with him, Sparkie actually mentioned it in his post match interview.

 

I wouldn't knock Andy Cook at all, but sometimes defenders just get the measure of a striker. Some CBs relish that physical battle as much as he does. That's why I'm disappointed Harratt doesn't seem to have done enough to get himself on the pitch. I was hoping as a sub he would give defenders something different to worry about just when they had got "comfortable" handling the big man.

 

Most CD in this league base their game on being physical with regards defending, there will be games where they get the better of forwards but so far this season IMO Cook has won more than he's lost as his goal tally shows.

 

Don't disagree Broncs, but equally there have been games where he has been totally nullified, and on those occasions we need a different option

 

On those occasions the responsibility has to fall on other players and to be fair the last two games Wright and Pereira have stepped up unfortunately we've not been able to keep a clean sheet in those two games losing 4 points in the process.

All I will add to this thread is that if the season ended today Andy Cook would most likely win our POTY and be named in the league two team of the season alongside Hoskins.

There's currently only Harry Lewis that is anywhere near the levels Andy Cook has performed to so I'm wondering why there isn't a thread on, say, one of the central midfield pairing.

 

Good post. Nice to disagree with someone without the usual animosity. I understand the style of play argument but I still take issue with the idea that 1 in 2 is job done. I'd rather play with attackers who are contributing more even if they are scoring less. Even Lee Mills was hugely instrumental in City goals that season when goals were flowing from everywhere. If Cook can maintain his 1 in 2 rate I'd say he was breaking even in terms of contribution. I've never understood this fixation on goals scored at the expense of assessing overall contribution. I'm not saying Wright, Pereira, Banks, Chapman etc are providing 8/10 performances every week but the performance of Cook's all round game should be taken into account when questioning why the team as an attacking unit are not more effective.

 

We'll have agree to disagree, for me any striker who can get 20 goal for the team is contributing, I don't understand the contributing his game is missing he closes down drops back to help out defending free kicks and corners what more are fans wanting ?, it will be interesting to see what Sparkie thinks of the situation doe's he drop Cook and bring in Oliver, sorry to say what I've seen of the lad so far he offers even less of a goal threat, or offers a better option with regards his all round game.

And it was a good goal the defender was always favourite he should have put the ball in row z but fair play to Cook robbing him and making space to get his shot away, how many is that now 14.

Thanks @bailiff bridge bantam. Sky now working but our game not on there yet. Cracking work by Cook for the 2nd goal though. Bloody strange game this footy eh? Saturday was pub football, tonight the opposite, how the hell does that happen?
