I think the guy deserves a thread, he's been written off by many on here, the manager brought in a big striker to potentially replace him. Unbelievable credit to the guy for bare knuckling his way back to the top of the tree. He's scored goals at this level all his career, he's exactly what we need. Cook....Cook....Andy.. Andy Cook....Gets the ball............You now the rest..

I have to add to the list of posters who have commented on his newer “slimline” appearance and apparent desire this season. Hats off to the lad, long may it continue. As others have said, even he figured out he needed to make changes, and my goodness he has made them.Only problem I have with him now is that he is starting to remind me of Sir Bobby.

I was in the minority that wanted him to stay. Call me old fashioned but with only one striker usually on the pitch I much prefer one that can put the ball in the net.

"Presence", for me, is vastly, nay, massively vastly (doesn't even make sense I know but you get the drift) over rated.

I'll admit I couldn't see where he would fit in with the new squad, but tbf I always said on here I didn't want him to leave, as there is no way any other L2 team could possibly have a better a reserve striker than Cook, and if we did sell him in a stroke of absolute madness he would 100% come bk against us and punish us.

People who wanted him gone must have a limited knowledge of football. You don’t ship players out with a record like he’s got! One of the best lower league forwards out there!

Aye hats off Dave. It is clear, that he’d let himself “ drift” in terms of physical and mental fitness. Dietary wise, something went seriously wrong, hence we all saw the waistline get bigger and him get slower. Couple that with zero competition for his place in the squad, just look who we had challenging him for his spot, and he was on a downward spiral?

It’s evident to me the club said to him, you have xx weeks, and we will help you, to get back to fitness and in shape. He’s grasped the straw given to him and it’s paying off.

Hats off to him, and the back room staff. The hard work, along with competitive recruitment is paying off.

Agreed Kev, he looks a far better athlete than last season post Christmas. He’s on a hot streak at the moment, let’s hope it can last and we don’t see another slump like last season, was it 2 in his last 18? The comments might be a bit different should similar happen again. It’s good Andy himself admitted his fitness issues in the T & A, but he needs to remain professional and not let it happen again. It’s his lively hood, it’s unacceptable to get out of shape for a professional athlete.

I imagine the increased competition has also sharpened his focus, so instead of fans getting onto Oliver we should look at the effect he’s had on our top scorer as a positive.

I've not said a bad word against Cook.
Some people expect him to produce goals out of absolutely nothing whilst he is isolated upfront on his own, he's not that kind of player.

When Harratt came on yesterday instead of all the defence focusing on him Cook suddenly had far more space and someone to play off. It was like a double substitution.

He could and should blossom under Hughes, learning from one of the best in the trade.

My criticism last year was that he wasn't clever enough when going up against no nonsense defenders, he often got frustrated and simply lost interest and didn't bother competing for headers.

For a lad of his size, he should have bullied more and won more free kicks than he did. I compare him to a poor man's Windass, naturally big lad but Windass had the nouse, to wind defenders up and get cheap free kicks whereas cooky doesn't really do that.

It's good to see him looking sharp and has taken his chances and goals really well so far, long may it continue

The other factor in our favour is he will be out of contract next summer, so it's in his interest to remain in the best possible shape fitness and form wise to get himself a good deal going forward, whether with us or elsewhere. A player like Cook will always be in demand at this level, but he will be able to secure himself a much more lucrative contract if he bangs in 20 + over the season, rather than 10 or 12.
I have nothing but praise and admiration for him. I really did think there was a strong possibility he'd be leaving this window, simply because he is the sort of player that wants to be starting every game and I thought his chances of doing that would be limited this season, given the players brought in. All credit to him for putting in the work he needed to do to get back to top form, it's exactly the sort of attitude you want in a player and long may it continue.

I said last season any half right manager with an understanding of league 2 gets out of the division with Andy Cook as your forward..

Hughes has brought in a style of play but even he has realized at times its the old skool style thats most effective in this division and will cause the most problems..

I thought he would be lost under Hughes Cook but fair play 2 Mark Hughes on adjusting himself to fit Cook back in..

Listen it is going to be a hard season this 1.. but for the first time in a while i see a pure dedicated manager making mistakes trying to find his feet in the lower league but making the immediate adjustments after.. hes invested in this club Hughes from what i see its no act.. hes put a squad of best he could together and realizing he needs better and higher end to drop at times which hes then gone out and got although i did think that would be his market aim from the off but maybe club couldnt afford and players didnt want the drop?..

I genuinely think this season will be a graft but we get out of the division under Hughes this season via a low end play offs win with Andy Cook at the forefront of that..........

Potentially he is, but it’s hard to argue his second half of last season was not only very poor in form, his performances and physical condition warranted the questions some asked of him, so don’t think it’s right to question supporters knowledge cause of that.

Way I see it, we are reaping the benefits of good man management and a whole heap of credit to the player. Management clearly set him a challenge to get fit and management competition for game time. Player has obliged by giving himself, the manager and the club respect by applying himself and stepping up. Bravo Andy Cook for that.

But as with anything, let’s not get too carried away just yet but enjoy the moment of performances he’s putting in and goals he’s scoring.

(for what it’s worth IMO, both his finishes yesterday were bloody good at any EFL level )

If I'm really critical of City fans, it's this need to want to repeat mistakes of the past.

Rahic came in and chopped and changed the manager every verse end. Ever since, City have repeated that, with the backing of the fans.

It hasn't worked until now, and it won't work.

Similarly, last season we struggled because we had only one fit centre forward for most of the season. So what happens? We sign Oliver, and the cries are that Cook has to go.

Do we not learn? Having one forward was a mistake. Switching managers all the time was a mistake. Let's hope Hughes has put an end to these poor practices.

We need to switch to 4-4-2 to get the best out of him (or Oliver).

The reason many wrote him off is because he isn’t the mobile forward to lead the line in 4-2-3-1 but as this season has shown, as did last season and the year before that, 4-2-3-1 is a heap of steaming dog turd.

give us wingers. Give us width. Give us goals. We’ve got too quality wingers in Banks and Chapman and Harratt looks a lively partner for Cooky. Once the rest of the 4-4-2 is settled we’ll be able to rotate Cook and Oliver whenever Highsey seems fit, and still maintain functionality. Rotating them in a 4-2-3-1 has proven a dud move though.

I thought he would leave. I thought he wasn't good enough and couldn't run.
I take it back. Well done Andy.

Despite all our views it rather looks as though MH kept faith. See MH in Yorkshire Post today, very complimentary about Cook's atitude. Looks like he will start tonight.
