Time will tell I suppose. I know a few smoggies and they were not optimistic at all in pre-season. I was surprised given they nearly steamrollered Sheff Utd for second

 

Interestingly he also referred to people (and I assume he meant Wrexham fans) calling Parkinson a dinosaur, something many of our fans also used to say ! Has Parky's shine worn off at Wales' finest ?

 

I said that exact phrase (along with some of our lot too) in our promotion failure in 2022, his reluctance to make any changes if drawing or losing until the 80th minute, and reluctance to move away from a 352 formation when we have the personnel to move away from said formation.

I'm not a parky fan, but will always be grateful for getting us out of hell after 15 years.

 

I have been quite critical of Halliday in the past ( particularly his defensive qualities it has to be said). However, credit where credit is due. Based on those brief highlights he looked to have a stormer going forward.

 

Fair comments. For what it's worth I think Wrexham have recruited poorly giving big wages to average players that don't really stand out in the division bar Mullin and Lee. And if it's true what I've heard they are paying Boyle then it seems you are having to pay over the odds for what you are getting.Thats not to say you won't finish top 7 come the end of the season but that will depend solely on the success of Mullin, pretty much like us last year with Andy Cook. Without him you're just another mid table mediocrity team.

 

I think he's been conspicuous by his absence this season.

 

I didnt go and as it wasn't on TV I've had to read with interest what fans who were there had to say about the game, obviously opinions differ, there are several on here who post and offer a balance view saying virtually the same as yourself.
If we were the worst team Wrexham have encountered this season it looks to be even more competitive than many thought.
I could never understand opposition teams fans breaking their balls to log into the ppositions forum straight after the game telling us we were crap, he really needs to take the defeat with a little more dignity or more water with his drink, maybe he was still drunk with last seasons sucsess and believes their owners quoting they will win the league with a 100 points, I bet Parky loved that comment.

 

He didn't say we were the worst team though, that's everyone on here being hyper sensitive.

He pretty much described what we've been seeing in that performances are generally over safe and sightly dull to watch.

I'm not sure I can disagree with that view and in that respect I probably accept it when he's describing the performance as the worst he's seen "so far".

Of course they can only comment on what he/she have seen so far, as I posted if that is the case some on here will get a shock just how good this league is.

 

At times it's not initially the performance that matters, I keep hearing this remark about Parkinson football, "it's dark age football" for me it's BS, he brought players into the club both mentally fit to play in front of 17,000 Bradford City fans to play a certain formation and it worked.
Phil Parkinson had many of us believing he was the manager who could take us to the Championship, unfortunately we know the reason that did not materialise.
After his his first season when taking over from Jacko he improved us season on season and gave many Bradford City fans pride and belief in our club.
I think the Wrexham may have started to believe the clubs two owners who were suppose to have said winning the league with a 100 points, now realising after 5 games it may not be as easy as the National League to win games in this league as several have pointed out with regards the current season..

 

Not heard of anything about Boyle's wages, nor do I care. We have the funds to spend if need be. Paky was adamant we needed a left footed centre half, so we got 1, but Tunnicliffe is a really good player for this league.

Recruitment wise, I agree. We have all said that if anything was to happen to Mullin, we're fecked. His goals are obviously great, but everything else in his game is absolutely top notch for a forward. He'd come back and be in the right back slot tracking back if need be. Incredible. However, the replacements in Waters and Dalby are imo not good enough if the owners want to be aiming for promotion.

 

I personally don't see you as an automatic promotion side, same with us.

 

At least he's progressed from what he played with us which was a form of 442 but the right hand side of midfield usually had a defender rather than a winger.

His saving grace was he liked two midfield players who could mix it, usually played a decent winger on the left and loved a big man/ small combination upfront.

 

Agreed. Same with Notts.

Fir some reason everyone is creaming over them both because they smashed the NL.

Don't see the media making the same predictions about Plymouth in the Championship and it's actually pretty ignorant of the rest of L2.

 

Interesting about the wingers. I remember being excited by a team sheet away at Rotherham with two attacking wingers and he never tried it again after being smashed 4-0.

I won't knock 442 when you have a partnership like Wells and Hanson. It generally worked a treat.

 

Hey, I never knock 442. For me, played with wingers, it suits me fine.

We have jus played two teams with 24 goal between them so far and conceded 1 that suggests we defended well doesn’t it?
