This makes no sense to me at all. Firstly, Wright has played for us as left side of a front three and as one of a two, alongside Oliver. He played well, scoring goals and getting MoM reviews in both roles. In recent games Alexander has played a front three and/or a front two. So in what sense is it ‘lazy’ to bring in a player who we know from recent experience can do a bloody good job at this level in the roles that GA is using?

The pool of players available in January who are a)available b)able to play the desired roles, c)good enough d)tried and tested and e)affordable, is vanishingly small. So, to bring back Wright when we know he’s available seems to me to be not lazy, but a no brainer.
Of course he may not live up to expectations. But that could be true of anyone we might sign. At least with Wright we actually do know that he’s capable, unlike several of the wannabe duffers or has-beens we’ve signed in recent years.

Happy with Wrights return, time will tell if we get the same player we had last season or not. I know its typical City to sign another ex player but it's a good move by the club by signing a player that us fans know first hand that has good quality at L2 level and has definitely slightly lifted the mood among many of us, and the last few poor results has had me and lad fed up and with us not been ST holders anymore we'd decided to duck out of games for a while, but us as City fans are as fickle as most and we are both now looking forward to Saturday as a result. Now I'm sure many others like us are similar and Wrights signing possibly may add a few on the gate with more walk ups like us bringing in much needed funds which you could argue brings the cost of signing Wright down.
Just to add to this also football is supposed to be entertainment so teams need the odd player in there that gets you off your seat and the Wright we briefly had last season did just that, similar how Vernam, Kyle Reid and Omar Daly did.

We’ve got Chapman, Pointon, Odour, Walker, Pattison, Wilson and Tulloch who all can play that position. And you still think this isn’t a “feel good” signing to get the fans back on board?

Who incidentally, with the exception of Tulloch, are our own players. I've said elswhere that unless we are going to follow up the Wright signing with another couple of quality signings and really go for it, then I would rather try to develop the above mentioned players than spunk a lot of money on a loan player. Good as Wright may or may not turn out, he's not enough on his own to get us to the playoffs.

Not one of them has Wright’s pace. Walker and Pattison are undoubtedly quality, but are forever getting injured. Wilson is totally unproven at EFL level. Odour flatters to deceive and goes missing for big chunks of games. Chapman has skill but, unlike Wright, his shooting, final ball and decision making in the final third are often terrible. Wright has pace, ball skill, stamina, an eye for goal and creates assists. What’s not to like?

Wow. You're gving Wright an awful lot to live up to. He sounds like the perfect footballer. Can't believe Plymouth have let him go!

Let's not forget the kid didn't get his first start until 17 September and scored 4 in 15 appearances, still 19 games left to play I'll happily take 7/8 goals from those last 19 games.

You’re making him out to be Lionel Messi. He’s scored 6 goals in 78 appearances.
Trust me. I really really want him to do well. But that pace of his is gonna be wasted on our current style of play, unless he’s going to be employed as a wide receiver, bombing down the wing in the hope he can get onto some long balls from the centre backs. People seem to forget it was under Hughes football he did well, not GA.

It’s all relative, isn’t it? He performed excellently for us in all the areas I highlighted. He stood out as being a class above most of his teammates here, which is why Portsmouth came in for him. But the gulf in standard between L2 and the Championship is now massive. Plus he was competing for a place with a lot of other wide players at Pompey. So I see no reason why he can’t be a very good player for us again.

Did you see any of our game against Derby? Very little hoof, playing through the thirds. Lots of movement on and off the ball. So it’s by no means a given that GA will have us play how you describe if he feels he has the players to do otherwise.

Plymouth not Pompey I think. It does begin with a P though!

Unfortunately that wasn’t a league game. I think since that match, he’s reverted back, giving little positive result.

I'm sure he has the ability to be a good player for us again, but I just don't remember him as an absolute world beater when he was here. Don't get me wrong he was decent. Very quick and very direct which was great. Believe it or not I would be happier if we had signed him on a perm. My issue is I don't think he is going to push us to promotion this season on his own, so if we don't back him up with a couple more good signings I wouldn't be wasting money on his allegedly expensive loan costs. Better to give Wilson and Pointon more game time and see how they push on

Colcheter sat back with 9 men behind the ball . Impossible to play through the thirds!

Well, yes, I’d certainly be happier if we’d signed him permanently. I know what you mean - it may be too late to get to the playoffs, no matter what we do. Now that Oliver and Osadebe have gone I suspect there will be more arrivals, but whether they’ll be enough to get us to promotion form is open to doubt.
GA has said he’s particularly signed Wright for his pace, as we’re short of this.
