    James Vaughan literally led from the front yesterday and was a class above anyone else on the pitch. Donaldson was clever and used his vast experience to gain free-kicks in good areas and brought others into play. Scannell worked hard and looks to be enjoying life again. Another thing i noticed was how dominant Richards-Everton was at the back and occasionally brought the ball out from the back. Akpan kept Lee Evans quiet first half. All-round pleasing performance against what was a poor Wigan side who could really struggle on this evidence.

    With having the very experienced and well travelled front three, providing the referees do their job correctly, I anticipate that City will receive numerous free kicks this season. Just witness the Wigan defence yesterday and that was for a friendly! Because of this I would hope that plenty of work is undertaken on the training ground to ensure we reap some reward from these. With the likes of Mellor, Richards-Everton, O'Connor, Akpan as well as Donaldson and Vaughan to attack the ball in the air we should be looking to hit the target.

    Midfield is still a weak area for me.
