If you’re talking about mistakes in terms of signings then it was definitely the correct decision to let Turnbull go as wasn’t it his job! If Adams was already doing player recruitment then it’s a total waste of money having a head of recruitment, if that’s the case you have to blame those higher up for not recruiting a manager who fits in with their philosophy. But as usual the club has no identity or long term plan, it’s trial and error as per normal.

I agree, sounds like we need a Barry Fry type figure?

I think so Kev, look at the highest two positions at the club, owner never really had an interest in football just an investment to him and a young CEO who has mainly worked in rugby before coming here who I’m not even sure is a football fan? We don’t have any real football expertise inside the club except for the manager, we may as well let him become chairman at this rate. At least Lawn and Rhodes were boy hood fans and had been going to football 40+ years even that makes a difference, you need a passion for football imo it’s an emotive sport and the only business where your customers care as much about your business as you do. At least DMAC when he took over posh was a big football fan and had Fry to lean on, who do we have?

I think you need someone with football knowledge on the board or in a senior position. Otherwise when the manager is asking for resources how do you assess whether he is right or not. How do you know you’re getting the right manager. As well as Posh’s role in developing players, and not all their signings are successful, I also like the idea of not having to change the whole squad when the manager leaves because they’re ‘his’ players or the new man plays a different system.
In a well run system, Sparks and Rupp will have a continuously updated shortlist of managers/coaches to replace Adams who can come in and continue his philosophy and get results without having to release and sign a new squad. Same for each position in the squad. I don’t think you can expect a manager to do all that and focus on success on the pitch. Hard job being a manager, setting your self up for failure if you want to do everything, world has moved on since the days of Clough.

Seen it all before mate, Burton, Accrington Stanley, Lincoln City, Grimsby Town, and many more promoted from non league and have out performed us, some getting into the Championship, but Park was quoting Turnbull being the scapegoat for Adams mistakes, just pointing out where we are at the moment I can't see many mistakes the guys made, at least Fordy gave him 10 games.

I don't get the obsession with McAnthony on here, Peterborough are a lower league club who have the occasional foray into the second tier, just like they were before he got involved with them.

Good point. Chances are they will be back down this season. If we were Peterborough, then our fans would be screaming blue murder about the amount they make on transfers and yet never achieve lasting success. Why do we sell our best talent, does the chairman ever put his own money in, what exactly (to the penny) has he taken out, is he really funding the ground, how much rent is he going to make us pay his company for it etc etc.

If Peterborough were the blueprint for lower league clubs they would have done a "Burnley" years ago. Christ, Peterborough is a far bigger town than Burnley.

Strikes me they are a club that on the face of it makes money on transfers (lots of it) but never actually really invest it back in a sustained push up the league. The new stadium only hold 4,000 more than London Road and will be owned by Embankment properties. Is that a blueprint for PL Football ?

Couple of seasons in league two, a few in the Championship and the rest in league one. It’s better than before he pitched up but they still lose a million or two every year. Posh don’t own their stadium either, it’s owned by the football club owners.

Yep, the owners will do very well out of the rent payments when they move on from the club.

Certainly no obsession here but I always remember posh as a 4th division team growing up now they’re top end league 1 lower championship, we’ve gone from top end league 1 to bottom half league 2 under Rupp. I know who I’d rather…

The couple of years in league 2 were his first two when he took over the club, if only we had an owner who had a track record of having us a division sometimes two above where we were when he took over for 14 years. Can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t have taken that when Rupp walked in.

Some saying Sparks made no mistakes yet? Every appointment he has made he’s got rid of within 12 months! Some not even lasting 6 months.

Come on even Rahic had a better strike rate than this. He’s a good speaker but not much else so far for me. Lot of work to do.

Peterborough have spent marginally less of my life in the bottom league than us. 20 years v 21 years. Take out our two pl seasons and we have remarkably similar records in the last 55 years.
