Thoroughly agree with this. We were lucky to get a good season out of him.
Dont want a decent wage tied up on him..

I can't see Marshall wanting to come back north and I also don't really think he should come back. A few posters have already mentioned his injuries may have taken their toll plus if he was one of the best wingers in league 1 why are Charlton letting him go for free. I feel his best years are behind him and afraid he would be the player he was under Parky and not the one under Stuart , so it's a no from me.

You seem to forget his poor 2015/16 season or the at best eight or so average ones before then

There's a reason he had that outstanding season (well, up to around April) by a long way, at the age of 29/30 and that's because it's an exception. It was always unlikely to me that he'd repeat it

Cullen, Burke and Marshall were all top end league players and would walk into any current 11 we could put out at present so your point is at best, a complete nonsense.

Once (or indeed IF) we sign better than those 3 (not going to happen) I'm more than happy to revisit your point.

He was also well liked by Port Vale fans. Definitely not a one season wonder. If injuries haven't caught up with him i'd take him back

    The facts are these

    1. He's 31
    2. He's had one great season throughout his career, which was 2016/17, when he was 29/30
    3. He's had other OK seasons, one or two good ones
    4. That tells you that he's very unlikely to be as good now as he was then
    5. He was terrible, apart from the Sheff U match, when he played in the first 10 matches of the 2015/16 season - which by the way yielded us 10 points. He was so poor, Parky went off and got Kyel Reid back on loan (let's get him back as well plus Doyle, Jones etc )
    6. He's had a bad knee injury last year
    7. There are plenty of other players, not on a downward slope

So this 'idiot' does indeed say 'no'

Sorry rarely do I disagree. But if he is fit I think he would be good for us. He provided nearly all the goals the season before last and Wyke if he stays needs the service

I don't see him improving us at the age of 31. I know that Vale fans like him - one of them works for me and rated him. But it's just unlikely that he's going to be as good

We also need to remember that, good as it was, that squad was flawed with a big failure rate in some of the big matches - i.e. McArdle (increased this rate, by this performance in the second leg in this season's play-off). I can't remember Marshall doing anything of note in the play-off final and to be honest I can't remember him having a decent match after March

I do agree though he's better than Gilly. And that's the problem - we've been poor at getting good wide men for a couple of seasons now

I don't think Wyke needs that type of service as he's not an outstanding header. I agree we need a wide man, but not one who's fading at age 31

Incidentally, some of what I said are facts!!

    Winner!!

The T and A comments section are hilarious at the moment, under the Josh Wright article

Apparently we're a failure for not signing a 28 year old L2 striker for £150K, who downed tools the minute he didn't get his dream move to to our club in January. Because what we need is another player with a questionable attitude or needs a constant arm around the shoulder

Burke and Cullen were youngsters expected to make a living at a least Championship level. The fact that you'd put Marshall in with them, simply because he had a good season like them is actually 'complete nonsense'

Burke was always even more impressive in the big matches. Was Marshall? He was great in some, but very modest in far too many

But the main thing is why anyone thinks that a 31 year old winger who's just had a knee injury thinks that they'd be just as good as they were two years ago. If Edin has come up with this idea, we'd be accusing him of lacking ambition - because basically you're saying that's the best we can do and we're only just into June

We are looking for a mixture of players and have done so. We've got players Rahic want to develop and improve such as Riley and Jones and players for the here and now. If we signed him and he provided us with instant results you'd think Edin and our new head coach would be satisfied, regardless of his potential to improve. He wouldn't have become a bad footballer in the space of a year so the only question mark for me is the impact his last season may have had on him.

Regarding his performances in the playoffs, wasn't he playing up front in a role unfamiliar to him? Can't remember now although something is telling me he did.

My point is that he's unlikely to be as good now as he was given his age and knee injury

Then we have to evaluate if he was that great as everyone says. Yes, he had some good games, but he disappeared for all the play-off final matches plus the Sheff U away match

I've said the same about McArdle and got killed for it. We need players who actually going to be MoM in the big matches, every time - not occasionally or rarely

Then Marshall would be worth the money and time

I'd have had a serious question mark if the owners had sanctioned this, but we're all different

I believe that we need the 'marquee' signings to be great in the key games and hence think we should look for better. However, I would have him before Gilly

Didn't I actually say that earlier in the thread?

Then suggest he'd walk into our first 11 right now (he would), and yet you labelled it as 'nonsense'?

    Very strange.

In addition, we now have both Robinson and Gibson on their way UP, whereas Marshall, just like Reid are going DOWN.

My point is that he's unlikely to be as good now as he was given his age and knee injury - Age doesn't necessarily come into the equation, look at Gary Jones? He's over the injury, he's started virtually every match since the start of November so he's fit!

Then we have to evaluate if he was that great as everyone says. Yes, he had some good games, but he disappeared for all the play-off final matches plus the Sheff U away match - Assuming you mean Fleetwood he was our best attacking player in the away game and everybody played well in the home game. Everyone was crap at Sheffield Utd, Stuart went gungho and it backfired badly! In the final he put Billy in on goal with a killer pass and caused Millwall loads of problems.

I've said the same about McArdle and got killed for it. We need players who actually going to be MoM in the big matches, every time - not occasionally or rarely - See playoff comments

Then Marshall would be worth the money and time - He is definitely worth another chance

I'd have had a serious question mark if the owners had sanctioned this, but we're all different

    If you
