Oli wasn’t very good at City and the fans in general were amazed that Swansea came in for him when he looked so raw and just not ready for the first team (in Parky’s direct side). That must have angered his family, seeing such comments.

Fair play to the lad. He’s progressed into a very good footballer and best of luck to him in his next move.

His case shows patience is required with young players (he did do well on loan at Man Utd and in the youth team I suppose so there were signs of ability) while, at the same time, offering a reason why someone connected with him may be desperate to see no sell on clause in the deal - to stick two fingers up to fans/club who slated him.

He was 18 and stood out a mile scoring record amounts of goals at youth level and excelling on loan at Man U, with scouts all over UK and Europe watching him, standing out at international level at youth level at Scotland as well in Euro qualifiers. When compared to his peers he was always going to be snapped up by bigger and better clubs.

I agree Bailer. But against hairy horrid centre half she was not ready and should have been eased into to it. Some player now though. I watched the lads highlights who as gone to Man U (James) Ollie is in all the build ups and play.

No disrespect to Swansea, but “scouts all over UK and Europe watching him, standing out at International level at youth level at Scotland” and yet they were the biggest club to take a punt?

Parky wanted players ready now and wouldn’t wait.

Not a criticism but he didn’t really afford youngsters chances. Club would have been daft not to sell

Quickest? He went to Manchester United more than 2yrs before he finally left. Hardly quick.

And yes they were a Prem side, but as I said no disrespect to The Jacks, but they’re not the big-hitters across Europe

He stood out at youth level....hence why Man Utd took him on that tournament.

Against men in League One he looked lost. Rotherham game a fine example. That isn’t to say he was useless.....he showed promise at youth level but he only became a man when later loaned to Chester. As i say, well done to him for blooming, even though it wasn’t in League One for us under Parky. As mentioned above direct football wouldn’t have been ideal.......wrong place at wrong time and all that......

Was there didn’t give a bad showing of himself, compared to rest of Bradford team, learning all the time and technically very good, was never suited to the Bradford style of play at the time.

Didn’t he play because Hanson’s back had gone? He was never gonna lead our line against those big Rotherham brutes that day given his inexperience and slight frame.

his development went to another level when he got his move to a bigger club with better coaches, players and facilities. if, oil mcburnie, had stayed there's no gaurantee he would have developed along the same pathway.. i'd hazard a guess that he probably wouldn't. the benefit of being a premiership / championship club is that you can buy potential and wait for it to develop. unfortunately, at league one and two level it's about the now.

    Good summary.

In that Rotherham game he was up against Claude Davis and Pablo Mills. Two, big, physical centre halves and as hard as they come. We needed another battering ram to fill in for Hanson at the time, rather than nurturing McBurnie.

For sure. Post match on the Forums indicated quite clearly where the fault lay.
I and others witnessed an inept and difficult full debut for Oli, yet Social media (rightly, IMO) were sympathetic, and actually blamed Parky for what must have been a confidence sapping display from the lad.

Yes Hanson was out so Parky played him against Claud Davis .and Craig Morgan along side Nahki they never gave the kid a kick, Parky substituting Ollie around 70 minutes.

"He continued: “In one of the games they even sang ‘he’s one of our own’, which was quite funny. Without the fans there is no club.
“Professional footballers can forget how important they are, but that’s not the case here.”

The former Bradford City man went on to suggest he’ll be staying at the Liberty Stadium next season, and said: “For the love they show me, I try to repay them with goals.

“I’m really looking forward to next season, and hopefully I can score a lot more goals for them.”

McBurnie’s comments are interesting, given the recent speculation that he could follow his former manager Graham Potter to Brighton, or indeed make the switch to Bramall Lane.

After a sensational 2018/19 Championship campaign in which he netted 24 goals in all competitions, the 22-year-old looks more than capable of flourishing in the Premier League.

Yet, seemingly out of loyalty, he could opt to remain in the second tier for at least another season."

If he does stay lets hope he has another 20+ goals season, the one year on his contract won't make a difference to his value if he manages another season at that sort of strike rate IMO.

Another season of goals could lead to Swansea being promoted, a likely new improved contract and no sale/sell on fee..
