Are we talking for play offs or for next season? If for play offs only Cheltenham are involved, so it would be Port Vale that take their spot

Where have I said I don’t want my club to modernise? Of course I would love to see our club get state of the art facilities and coaching, who wouldn’t want to see the standard of football they watch improved. But you’re showing a distinct lack of understanding outside of the premier league, as your league 2 Peterborough comment yesterday proved. These facilities cost millions that these clubs simply don’t have and even if we did get them out best youth players would still be plucked for very little with the change in rules around category 1 academy’s signing players for peanuts now. Most managers/coaches in the EFL have spent time in the top flight either as a coach or player so I’m sure they’re aware of how the best training is done. However you have to take into account that players lower down just aren’t good enough, if you give a prime Wayne Rooney and a Prime Eoin Doyle the same training they’d still have had similar careers to what they had as all professionals train all week just because some don’t do it in fancy buildings doesn’t mean they don’t use similar techniques. What’s the point in a league 2 team trying to play like Man City only to keep losing the ball and conceding, it’s competitive sport you play to your teams strengths and play to win football would be dull if it was all played the same way. As it often is in lower leagues in other countries on the continent, which is why the championship is the 6th most watched league in Europe despite being the second tier. Not bad for backward facilities.

Anyway this is about next season taking place and keeping clubs in business something you’ve constantly avoided on here, so I’ll go ahead and presume you’re happy for clubs to go under as long as Man United can sign another average player from China:thumbup:

I've many times mate that the club made a massive mistake in 1) hiring Bowyer and 2) keeping on for so long.

However, we have a new manager now and i would like to think we would put up a better fight.

One of the reasons I didn't get Bradford and Vales comments was because surely the aim is to go up and get into the play offs then see what's what.

Tbh I agree with @Fordy117@Fordy117 for once. We should have at least thought for the season to come to a climax, we’re what 4 points of the playoffs and 9th but are happy for the season to finish as it is. If it’s a financial issue, then this is when Rupp should show why he actually bought the club and fund it, as he has said himself he wants to right the wrongs and that involves getting promoted by any means necessary. If the season has concluded normally with our form there is no chance we would have got in the playoffs, but with a big break and potentially a chance to bring a few new signings in and let McCall coach them before hand then no reason why we couldn’t have made the playoffs and got promoted.

But I think the club are happy to tread water and have believe that for years even though I get my hopes up every season.

The vote was 20 to 4 in the favour of finish the season now. We had no chance to win that vote.

It’s obvious Rupp will honour his pledge to keep us afloat but I don’t think he will put in more than he needs to and won’t bankroll a promotion push next season if we get there. He will honour contracts we have now and make sure debts/bills are paid and I think that’s it

I agree. But I sincerely hope that someone at the club is trying to convince him of the merits around pushing for a real promotion tilt next season. It’ll be a buyers market like never before and we could assemble a quality squad - quality even by L1 standards - for a price that would normally be unrealistic. If he wants to invest and give himself a chance of a future sale at a decent price, he’s going to have to do something. Seeing us tread water and defer to ‘hope’ will likely see his current investment dwindle further.

I've said the voting situation is wrong and can't happen in situations like this.

My issue with the club and vale is the lack of fight for their club. At least come out and we wanted to be in the play off and for the season to finish etc. Fight! But instead both clubs rolled over and got tickled.

So now what? We go in to hibernation with no clue when next season is going to happen and how we overcome testing etc..

So not fighting for the play offs and coming out with saying it would cost 500k for play offs is utter pointless because next season might not happen. At least make out the club isn't soft!

The club is a walk over! Stands for nothing!

I hope the same as you but the noises coming from sparks and McCall in the press it’s obvious we know next season will be a struggle in terms of budget. Already calling for a salary cap. Releasing players back as soon as possible etc.

As I say I think he will keep the club afloat and on a sound footing (sorting pitch etc) but that’s it. I mean I sound cynical but if we are crap next year it’s a perfect excuse isn’t it? “Low budget, money is tight as it is for everyone”. You get the idea

If the Telegraph are to be believed then City should be in a very strong position next season.

Come on Fordy. Both us and port vale were not in the play off positions and so be it the season ended. Could we afford all that testing? And what then if we don’t get in? Money we didn’t have spent to end up at the same result. I didn’t believe we would get in anyway our team was dead and buried weeks before the season finished.
As for port vale they were in a better position than us but did the right thing for the good of the league. Fair play to them. that money they might have spent on testing could be used to pay another player in the short term? And the play offs are a total lottery as we know. There’s no guarantees.

that’s why Mcanthony at Peterborough is making me laugh in all this. He said he will sue if Peterborough don’t get Into the play offs. Who’s he suing and for what? Doesn’t even make sense. They were only just in the play offs on goal difference and Wycombe had a game in hand. Plus who’s to say they’d win in the play offs? Just a mess

Just seen someone say the vote was 20-4 but previously it has been reported that the clubs were unanimous, and also at least one club have said it wasn’t an actual vote but more an indication

I usually championed Julian & Mark when they ran the club BUT the situation we find ourselves in at the moment IMO we have a better chance of surviving with Rupp as the owner than Julian & Mark.

    Yeah that's what I thought.

I don't see that working at all. Danny Devine best we can hope for.

Then if a really good home grown player comes along we would sell anyway.

Doesn't work for me or see how Bradford benefits. Makes us worse if anything.

Based on they were hand to mouth every year and relied on some cup success recoup the deficit and we were in trouble at one point with talk of Odsal etc..
