What is that based on? The infection rate will probably pick back up again but given time it will fall. All these type of viruses have done that in history. The more time passes and if we can get track and trace in full working order we can control it’s spread.

    Sorry for the confusion.

No, in general I don't see the levels of infections dropping. I don't see how it logically could. As more people go out and meet other people it can only increase.

Over time it will diminish (the dreaded herd immunity) but that length of time doesn't look to be 5 months at the moment.

The app has nothing to do with it. It’s a gimmick and a nice tool. Track and trace officers are key and will find and isolate cases and those who have been in Contact. That is what will get the infection rate down

    I get track and trace.

But not everyone is getting tested. Carriers without symptoms will blow that theory out of the water in no time.

Prelimanary discussions have been held with some chairman of league 2 clubs about a restructuring of the division that would see a merge between league 2 and the National League on a regional basis and turn them into league 2 North and South.

Very radical, and if happened, it would feel to me like we were playing non league football.

So we might be playing the likes of Harrogate, Gateshead and Stockport next season!

This would make promotion harder, with only one club from each section gaining automatic promotion, and 1 from each section via playoffs

What an enthralling prospect. Although with the shite served up by league 2 football maybe it is time to just go with two or three professional leagues in this country and make the rest semi professional. Certainly the wage structure if there is a merger would see a lot of clubs unable to field a full time professional outfit. Football has needed a restructure for some time, i just wish it wasn't us that was part of it.

It is in the Daily Mail this morning. They are usually good with their sport articles. There is also a very good read about Bury, and how the supporters are split between Steve Dale's plan to apply for membership of the National League, and a group of supporters who have formed a phoenix club AFC Bury and looking to apply for memebership of the North West Counties league

The take up would be tiny for a number of reasons.

The product is inferior, especially with no atmosphere. Anybody who watched the Bundesliga yesterday will see the issue straight away.

You're likely to be able to watch better quality football for a similar, or even cheaper price at home.

More uncertainty in the economy meaning people will cut back from discretionary spending. Not want the prices increased.

The main sticking point for me. Love my away days down south. Take that away, another nail in the coffin for my 'love' of football.

Not to mention the piracy factor. Even people who would buy a season ticket and know that buying an ifollow season ticket will help the club will still decide to pirate even if it was just £10 for the whole season

Yeah I didn’t even bother watching any of them which is rare for me as I would watch a school team match if it was on lol. The United Europa League match against LASK showed me how sport without a crowd just seems lifeless and losses that excitement. Watching the old matches such as the Euro 96 reruns on ITV are better than new matches with no crowd even though I know the result

Advertisers are going to demand some of the money back as not having fans in the stadium reduces the value. And with no ticket sales that’s going to reduce a lot of the income.

In addition it’s not cheap for teams to take part in these games but it will be even more expensive now as there will be more logistical elements to consider. For example will teams have to arrive days earlier to allow for more time to test to ensure the squad is virus free and they may need to book out whole hotels not just a couple of floors

Its not as if we are the only club using the furlough scheme is it?

Any sensible business owner would take advantage of having 80% of their wages met by the government for a period of time.

But its exactly the same difference from Southend to Exeter as it is Southend to Bradford, so where are the benefits in this example?
And as I said to you before, why should league one teams be disadvantaged in a merger of the two leagues?

Well something for someone with time on their hands, work out the amount of miles between the grounds in the respective divisions. The unknown factor and one which is probably the most influential is that more "occasional" fans will travel to grounds that are within reasonable travelling distance thus increasing gate revenue (which we are told is virtually all that most clubs are run on) and all the additional revenues having extra fans in the ground brings.

Of course Rupp is backing us. We have no income coming in for the foreseeable future, but we still have expenses. We will at some point in the coming weeks and months have to assemble a squad of players, without Rupp, that wouldnt be possible

Personally, I would love to see new local owners buy him out, but that isnt going to happen anytime soon.

On a footnote to ownerships, director of football etc, I see that ex Wigan chairman David Sharp has been appointed DOF at Mansfield.
