Restaurant industry? Give over. A few curry houses does not constitute an industry.

The First Direct is a great arena, went there in December. Loved the place and loads of places to eat and drink before and afterwards.

I went there a couple of years ago, had a good night, but come on, the Gaumont will be the place for music and entertainment just watch. It has a heritage of attracting good artists, and will do do again when it opens. We will have three major entertainment venues in Bradford.

Ivegate seems to be the new North Parade. Not sure you can base a city centre on just bars though! Still, it's better than these places being shut.

Always loved Ivegate, it used to be mainly food shopping, apart from the strip joint half way up, weird lol. Plus it used to have a proper gate at the bottom, I wish the council would reinstall it, that would be a nice touch.

Yes, but will reopen 2021 I think. I will never forget the excitement of the city when the Beatles arrived to perform brilliant.

Although Manningham RFC started out as a district club, it soon grew and eclipsed Bradford RFC (the forerunner of Park Avenue), they then both had periods of greater success than their rival. So in reality they were both the leading clubs in Bradford. Manningham clearly wanted to be in north Bradford, but the reality was that there were few suitable venues. I think we all know that VP is on a former quarry site and had been owned by the Midland Railway. If you look at Northern/Bulls, they had to go to another quarry in the 1930’s (which was being used as rubbish dump) at Odsal to find a plot large enough to accommodate a stadium. The council own the ground and ‘lease it’ to the Rugby League. I am fairly sure the council would not have the money or commitment to build another stadium. I think the Bulls rent the ground for a ‘peppercorn’ fee.

This reminds me of a few years ago.
As a teaching assistant, I once addressed a group with the question of "What would you buy a Man who had everything ?" Quick as a flash ......... A young lady called out - "A box to put it all in ! " I really had to bow to her speed of thought, and imagination. Stunning.

Don't blame them. It's where all the better buildings like the wool exchange and the town hall are.

Bradford undoubtedly lags massively behind Leeds.

But there are lots of initiatives out there to help redress the balance. The high cost of Leeds and our proximity to Leeds and Manchester is our big opportunity.

Key to this is getting the Bradford onto the Nothern Powerhouse rail link.

Everybody should pledge their support > here

And Bradford was rated the best place in the UK for Businesses to start up by Barclays. See report

    A combination of;
    1. Low rates
    2. Low rent
    3. Low wages
    4. A young workforce
    5. Large population
Have you tried parking in Leeds? £22 in The Light...

Smart companies are waking up to this. PwC has announced that they are moving to Bradford and taking staff from Leeds bring in 225 jobs. See T & A story

This leads to more spending in shops, bars and boosts the local economy. Salford Quays experienced a massive boom when the media centre opened.

Dave Baldwin was at the MIPIM conference in Cannes last week as part of the Bradford Economic Partnership to promote Bradford is the UK destination of choice for businesses looking to operate in the UK.

Lots of great work is being done.

Bring in the trains and it will light the touch paper to boom town Bradford IMO.

Oops. Sorry for the positivity :)

    Bang on.

Bradford apparently is the youngest city in the UK, and despite some claims, has the 7th highest number of manufacturing jobs also.

    No industry?

    No hope?

    No future?

    Can't agree at all.

This is a pretty good summary too: https://www.bradford.gov.uk/business/bradford-economy/about-bradfords-economy/
