Not a rumour, but would be nice to think that Bradford born Dave Whelan and his family might be tempted with a bid to purchase City.

The sale of Wigan to IEC for £22million is expected to be completed by next month. The family apparently fed up with pumping £750k a month into the club just to keep it going.

Maybe they have other irons in the fire, or maybe they just want out of football though.

I would think he’ll take his money and enjoy his final years. Didn’t realise he was from Bradford tbf.

Regardless of what Rahic has done to us. For someone with money and and interes I’m football we should be a draw. Fan base and ground for the championship or higher, no debts.

I know, but nice dream, as opposed to the Rahic/Rupp inspired nightmare!

We would have to drastically improve the pies at the club to attract him here (Meat and Potato is his favorite I believe)

That's a long shot Idle. Dave was borne in Bradford, Bolton Road I think, but was taken back to Wigan when he was three days old by his Mother, presumably when she was fit to travel.
I suspect he will stay on at Wigan as Life President or the like if the takeover goes through. He has hero status there and likes to be in the Boardroom with his old buddies such as Wigan Rugby legend Billy Boston and others.
As to his Grandsons who run the Club today, who knows, they may stay on in some Executive capacity with the new owners letting the existing people with knowledge of the town, supporters and business get on with running it.

He's from Wigan, pies of ANY variety are his favourites. Even between a barm (tea) cake.

I'm still waiting for Ken Morrison to throw some of the millions found down the back of his sofa at the club....and he's been dead for quite a few years.

Amongst his other interests Dave had a pie company, Pooles Pies, nomes, I believe after Poolstock, the district of Wigan where it was based. Great quality pie.

That's what the Venkys did, two years ago. Stood back and just watched the progress made by local based management.

He used to eat a pie before every game, The makers changed the recipe and he was not impressed and it spoilt his day, So he quite simply bought the company and reinstated the recipe he liked

He was born on Otley Road. His dad was performing in the area - In the theatre, I think and it just happened that he was performing here when his wife gave birth.

He has no ties or emotional attachment to Bradford. And he's now taken on a role similar to Jack Tordoff at City. He's passed on the reins to his son-in-law to run Wigan.

He passed on the reins to his grandson David Sharpe actually. However, they have agreed to sell the club for £22Million. Mr Sharpe may fancy another club to run?
