Many fans choice for our gig has had a nightmare start to his role at Donny. 4 points from 9 games, thrashed 6-0 at Ipswich last night and propping up the Ieague. He must be on borrowed time already you would think.

Being a football manager as we know carries an element of luck, very few managers have sucsess through out their managerial caree.
Sir Alex was a game or so away from the sack when they beat Oxford in the Leage Cup, @SimonW@SimonW will correct me if I'm wrong.
Sometimes the new club is a good fit but eventually managers get the sack, let's hope Adams brings us a little sucsess before he goes.

There was only one bloke I'd have gone for and that was Kenny Jackett.

Good bloke and an even better manager.

The lager up here is too cold and we make our curry too strong to entice a southerner like Jackett. He stayed south hoping for a bit part in the remake of the Bill.

Was Forest away in the 3rd Round of the 1990 FA Cup actually. But your point is pretty much the same, the club hadn't won a match in 8 games, they were 15th in the league and forest had been Semi-Finalists the last 2 years (including beating United on the way the season before), had won the league cup the season before (and would win it again that season) and had finished 3rd in the league the last two season. And about half the starting 11 including Bryan Robson and all the new signings for that season were out injured. So it didn't look winnable. Fergie threw in 3 of what were really the first batch of youngsters to come through his youth setup changes in Russell Beardsmore, Lee Martin and Mark Robins. Robins scored the only goal of the match and we went on and won it and the rest is history.

The difference with Fergie though is he did have support inside the club as they knew the changes he was making behind the scenes and while some were just concerned about the results on the pitch at that moment others realised it needed time. So while Robins goal allowing silverware to be won and took the pressure on it probably wasn't the case that he was 1 game away (midseason sackings didn't happen as much back then) and even without silverware it wasn't as clear cut as was made out as some of the board would have fought it.

It's probably even more important to be able to hang your hat on something like that these days as fans have a much bigger voice and you need them onside. Look at Adams, if he is making the club better behind the scenes there doesn't seem to be much communication about that and its making the job harder. The club and Adams could do with communicating what they are doing longer term and try and show fans the progress as it's not helping. And its the same at many clubs, if the manager isn't getting the results communicating how what they are doing away from matches makes the club better long term is vital. It's like if you look at Man Utd right now, Ole is getting way more leeway because while the silverware everyone wants isn't yet there it's pretty obvious to everyone and other club and the players (and the ex-players) have made sure it's obvious that Ole has bit by bit rebuilt the heart and soul of the club that over the Moyes, LVG and Jose reigns they had dismantled. You still get the idiots, the ones who started supporting the club towards the end of Fergie's time, often from abroad who will constantly scream OleOut on Twitter but most of the match-going fans still support him because they see a United that they recognise which they hadn't for a long time

Sounded like he’s pleading for his job in YPost today. Got a meeting with the Chairman and CEO later, watch this space, could be second sacking in less than a year.

I personally didn't get the clamour from some fans that we ought to be approaching him on the summer. Still glad we went with my first choice in Adams

I don’t think Wellens would have done much here tbh, he’s a modern manager who probably wouldn’t demand the changes needed an Adams will. It doesn’t mean Adams is right for the next 5-10 years but here and now many at the club need a rocket up their backside. As for Wellens he took a mid table team looking for the playoffs to looking like relegation fodder, someone was talking about how many sacking to promotions Adams has had the other day well far better ratio than Wellens. Nothing against the guy like what’s going on at Donny is none of our concern tbh, we need to just focus on our own failings not someone else’s. As you say it’ll take time, we’ve had 4 years of non stop regression and not even an admin to excuse it, there’s a while to go get before good times come back I feel.

Don’t forget he was sacked at Salford in quick time. Saw him on Look North last night, nice talk but had the look of the condemned man.
Yes it is nothing to do with us but plenty on here wanted him. I was at the Salford game which was his first home game and with no crowd all I heard was a foul mouthed 90 minute rant at his players, little wonder he didn’t get the results to keep his job and only lasted months.

Agree totally Wetherby. And tbh can't understand why our fans have spent so many posts discussing a manager who was never in the frame for the job here. Revel in his failure at Donnie if you like, But he was never coming to VP.
