It’s easy to set boundaries and divide responsibilities if both agree to that I can’t see a problem. I think I read that Trueman was working more on the defensive side of things while Sellars further forward

I’m pretty confident the club will do the right thing on this, and none of us know exactly what’s been agreed between the two parties. For all we know T&S might want to be “interim” for the rest of the season. It keeps an escape route open to their day jobs if it all comes on top.

After watching the first few games I said back in December giving these two a longer run could prove to be a masterstroke. Full credit to Ryan Sparks for taking a gamble on them.

Nobody expected them to do the job they have done but, remarkably, we are still to go a goal behind under them after seven games. I think they deserve a longer deal as the OP suggests.

Grimsby are hardly ripping it up under Paul Hurst either are they.

    This needs a poll...

    Stay as interim managers

    Or

    Given full time contract

    (or words to that effect)

Keep things as they are then if they keep doing well make it permanent. No point rushing into a decision for once we hold some cards and are in a position not to be bent over.

I think the club is waiting until the Jan window has closed before looking at handing out new contracts, including to management.
Could see there being an announcement mid-late Feb

First few games and you're thinking it's maybe a bit of good fortune and that they are just keeping the seat warm but the more you see the more players and fans are buying into it. Can't ever see them going back to youth football now.

It will be interesting to see how they handle a couple of bad results.

Agree. It was too early to be giving them a permanent contract then but there didn't seem to be any outstanding candidates interested if the rumours were to be believed, so it made sense to give them longer.

We've matched every team we've played under them IMO, even Cambridge (twice) who are top, so they've very much surpassed expectations and shown the early promise wasn't a fluke.

It is a shame we had so many games abandoned this month - we would undoubtedly have more points on the board and might be that further bit clear of the relegation zone. I think that is the only thing stopping the board making them permanent managers. They've given them great backing in January with the signings that have been brought in, which allayed one of the main fears levelled at the interim bosses early on - that players might not want to sign for them.

They've let the results do the talking. Fair play to them and to Sparks for taking a punt.

They’ve now been able to recruit their own players (to a certain extent).
See how they bed in, if the positive progress continues beyond this month then I’d be looking to extend.
They can then embed their identity on the pitch and the club for the longer term and give us that stability and continuity we’ve not had for far too long.

Wait till Feb / March and then 12 rolling contract with a good pay increase and bonus structure

I'm not happy with that at all. Sellars has to be manager. Not having his lacky usurp him.

They were the only ones I could really think of at league level, then I read this...

    1991-95: CharltonAthletic
The managerial relationship between Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt was certainly a marriage of convenience rather than a pre-arranged affair. In the summer of 1991, both men applied for the vacant post at the Valley and with the board unable to separate the two, they were both ushered into the AddickâÂÂs hot seat.
After narrowly missing out on a playoff position in their debut season, a prolonged spell of mid-table obscurity followed. With the prospect of progression seemingly becoming ever more distant, the board chose to act, and it was Gritt who found his head on the chopping block.
The decision to give Curbishley full control proved a shrewd one, with a famous play-off victory over Sunderland sealing a return to the top flight after an eight-year absence in 1998. Although they were promptly relegated, they bounced back at the first time of asking and only returned to the Football League after Curbishley left the club in 2006.
    Verdict: Uninspiring

I tell you what’s a certainty when we get our first negative result under them there will be plenty of comments on here saying it isn’t working

Ouch and apologies! Of course I meant Rupp, but the spectre of the man that knows football is obviously still troubling my sub-conscious.

Agree. They have handled a few moments of adversity very well so far such as the tactical changes they made when Grimsby looked to be edging back into the game, rotating the squad and using subs to win us the game against Tranmere and whatever they said to the players at half time on Tuesday to get a response after quite a poor first half.

Not taking anything away from the excellent job they've done so far, but I think there are a few more hurdles for them to overcome before we commit long term. I don't think they have been behind in a match yet or, as @BL_@BL_ says, had to pick the squad up after a loss. These hurdles will come at some point (well hopefully not!) and potentially in the coming weeks as we have a lot of games in a short space of time against teams towards the top. Then there are player management issues such as ill-discipline or contracts etc. As others have said, if everyone is happy with the current situation, lets take each month as it comes and evaluate towards the end of the season.
