He is the type of 'limited'player I wouldn't mind here!

 

9 goals and 6 assists as a winger in 22 games. Very limited!

If it's end of contract I think it's Posh policy to release? He probably has no intention of singing a new contract.

 

Maddison is a great player. Something as happened there.

 

Nothing has happened. The chairman allows the players to move on if they clear are a standard above. If they can't sort a move while under contract then they're allowed to run it down.

Toney is allowed to leave them.

It's one of the ways they can attract talent.

 

Yes, with his technical ability he'd be a Premier League player if he wasn't held back by his poor athleticism.

It's a very considerable limitation, and a bit of a shame really.

He's now a top end League One player, and a mediocre Championship player.

As far as comparing him to Bradford City and would I like him here? I think we need to be a little bit more realistic. He'd be a superb League Two player, obviously, but what a silly discussion. I labelled him 'limited' in terms of his potential, not as a potential Bradford City player.

Maddison is similar to many lower league players who consistently stand out, but never put all the pieces together to perform at the top level.

It depends what we're judging him on, but Marcus Maddison is only a 'great player' at L1/L2 level, and even then his defensive and athletic attributes haven't guided Peterborough to promotion after a few years at this level. He hasn't improved in those areas at all.

I think there is a definite admiration of how Peterborough on this board, consistently overrating their players, club performance, and transfer policy, but I would not say Maddison was a top 5 player under the MacAnthony era considering some of the players they've had.

Assombalonga, Gayle, Tomlin, Bennett, and Boyd are all genuinely excellent players outside the Premier League, and Ryan Bennett in the PL.

Great is a very generous term, but it depends how you're applying it I guess.

 

Take with a pinch of salt. This board has sneered over targets/links with Matt Godden, Lyle Taylor, Matt Crooks and Tom Eaves over last year or two. Loads more as well.

Maddison is an enigma. A player with a talent but not as good as he thinks he is. The games i've seen him at Valley Parade he's always flattered to deceive.

I would apply the same to Peterborough United as a whole.

 

Their transfer policy brings in the millions but the times i've seen them it can be counter productive to the aim of promotion because they seem more concentrated on the resale of individual players. That said i do respect their game plan.Certainly better than any plan we have as a club.

 

Definitely much more consistent than what we've been doing!

 

Have to agree, I’ve only seen him have one good game against us and that was a few boxing days ago when they ripped through us at will. No doubt got a lot of talent as far as a lower league player goes, but he seems a bit bone idle and thinks he’s far above the level he’s been stuck at for years.
