maybe....and I accept it's a maybe...his football brain and decision making could be worked on and improved. The one thing you can't do is turn a cart horse into a race horse. For me he did enough last season to be worth a punt

If we do sign another winger, I'd much rather we go all out to get Roberts.

 

Nothing in the pipeline because the clubs who’s players we have inquired about are either not yet back in training or have just returned. Nowhere does it say they haven’t been identified

 

Spin it whatever way you like but we haven't signed 6 players, we've signed 4 and given out two contract extensions. That's not to mention Cooke who was already part of the squad last season and Clarke who was away on a gap year in Lincolnshire.

 

What a stupid thing for McCall to say. We probably need at least 4 new players. 2 wingers, a creative midfielder and a rb.. Thats the bare minimum. Where are these players going to just "crop up" from??

 

Anyone would think that it's just a myth there were over 800 footballers released from uk clubs this close season.

 

I'm surprised that people are taken back ar how this works. The majority of EFL clubs work like this and even top level. Think of Jorge Mendes and Wolves and Arsenal have just released scouts because Edu wants to go down the agent route.


As long as agents are in the game it will carry on like this too.

Totally agree. I'm sure there's many out there who'd love to give something back to the club. A friend of mine, her grandfather is a scout for Swansea and does it for the love of the game. He's been involved with football most of his life, and wants to give something back to the club he's supported since he was a boy. Sure we've got the same. That fella who sadly died - Archie Richie. I contacted him and told him I'm involved with football over here in Estonia, and he asked me to recommend some players and go to some games to give him feedback. Sadly he left before anything could be done, but I'm pretty sure if I sent the same email (to who?) I'd get knocked back. Ragnar Klavan was one I suggested!

 

If we don't replace with quality I give up.

 

I'd put it mainly down to absolutely no consistency in manager and some awful contracts handed out. It hasn't left any room for progressive thinking, what does need to happen is that the club needs to follow one ideology for recruiting if you will regardless of manager if we are going to keep cycling through them.

 

I agree and a small recruitment team consistent to this club would work at this level. 2 or 3 scouts before a chief scout who reports directly to the manager. None of this them signing players off there own back or going to the chairman. It’s between them 2 to work out what they need based on our budget.

That way you don’t have to rip it all up and start again. If one of the scouts gets poached you lose him but keep all your reports. He’s replaceable. Same again if manager goes. You get one in you know will work with them. And the cycle goes on. If you’re lucky to sell players you know who you can get in and the money raised can buy new software or put them in a permanent office etc. And repeat and repeat

 

So now we wait for Stuart's phone to ring so that someone can offer us a 15/20 goal a season striker???

Think you’re under estimating the use of analysts in most companies, especially consultant analysts, we’re paid very well, I’ve had a raise during lockdown, but that’s irrelevant.
I’ll happily go in the “crazy” bracket though, I’d love to work for my football club on an exciting project, knowing the impact I could make would benefit friends and family, as well as the club I love. But each to their own. When looking at a career, money isn’t even in the top 3 for me, but job satisfaction is. I’d get tremendous joy in helping City succeed, much more so than helping the supermarket I work for increase sales and efficiency, even if they pay X amount more for my services.

 

Is that how far we have fallen? Fans wanting us to sign players released by Forest Green?
