We have a glaring opportunity, in a buyers market, hundreds of players out of contract, and a window prior to a salary cap, whereby we can sign quality players that will only count minimaly towards the total bill! Yet we do nothing for a week and other teams around us hoover up the quality. Honestly its like we're weeks behind everyone else off the mark! We are destined for mid table at best. Wouldnt suprise me to see Harrogate pass us by

If you don't see ROD as a good keeper you don't go to games Fordy, he made some brilliant saves last season and kept us in games. What he can't help is teams getting free run at our defence constantly. He's a sound keeper at this level.

Did you watch Cooke play in the first 3 months? He was running a lot of the games and for me proved he had quality, it was only when Bowyer moved him deep his form dipped then he had niggling injuries.

I'd never said the squads complete because that's blindingly obvious, my point is that we have made some good additions for this level and hopefully have more to come.

 

Burnley finished 10th but their keeper Nick Pope was probably the best keeper in the country last season, so us finishing 9th doesn't mean O'Donnell was not good enough.

Jay spearing went to tranmere because he lives on the wirral he was never moving this way. Furthest he as ever moved is Blackburn and that gave him a nosebleed.

 

Blackpool is further from the Wirral than Blackburn. But apart from that .

 

13 goals in 28 appearances last season, pretty good for a so called target man. I seem to remember us being linked last year or maybe the year before to him?

Forgive us but the last couple of seasons have been enough to sap the positivity out of just about anybody.

 

For me a good RB will be key, highlighted by Mellor and Henley last who everytime they got on the ball our attacks seemed to break down and wingers had fun against them going the other way.

 

Seriously, who is scoring the goals to give us every chance? Last season Vaughan got 11 and four other players got four each, three of them, McCarten, Oteh and Akpan have left the club. Novak got two in six appearances do there’s maybe some hope there.

I’d love to be optimistic, but unless there is a new player who can score goals coming in or McCall has a Midas touch we don’t know about and gets Guthrie, Clayton and Clarke doing well, and Cooke and Watt chipping in a dozen or more between them, I fear it’s going to be a long season.

 

He will be 37 midway through next season. His last double figure season was 15/16 with 11 league goals from 40 appearances. He needs to bring a lot more to the team than 4 goals to justify his position as presumably one of the bigger earners

I agree being a natural finisher is the most important thing. I like pace on the wing though because it worries defenders and makes room for strikers
