Like them two kids last night for Liverpool eh? ;)

(yeah I know it's different gravy and all that. But as Fergie proved - if you do have the right kids, then they can easily stand up to, and play against anyone.)

Not having a go but we've heard about these wiz kids so many time who are going to be a great asset to the club over the years and they can be counted on one hand.
A few years ago we had a youth team with several lads with potencial McBurnie being the prize asset we did well in a competition and drew Colchester at home, we got beat 4 - 0 I believe.
Someone posted on C&B Colchester had invested a massive amount of money in a youth set up, which was going to bring good young kids on enabling Colchester to sell them on to sustain the academy, I don't think they have said academy anymore..

Ha, don't get me the wrong way - I was just playing Devils Advocate (it is halloween afterall). I totally agree with you. I'd much rather us focus on getting the first team into a position and a league, where we can run a youth "academy" as a development project. We've had a few wiz kids in the past, and who knows if any of this current crop will be the next, but as it was shown by Liverpool and Arsenal last night, if they are good enough, they are good enough. Many of the names in that team v Rochdale I haven't heard of. If they were the next wiz kids, they'd already have featured in the first team squad, getting a place on the bench. The reality is that most of them will disappear at the end of their contracts. Their fault, or our lack of youth coaching (and there's that viscous circle again).

Lovely goals - against the same level oppositon - though!

A great game to watch as a neutral.

Same could be said for Vaughan though. Two decent seasons at Town 7/8 years ago and one at Bury a couple back.

Here and now, Doyle is the most prolific in L2. We are paying him to score for a promotion rival.....

I think we need to trim the fat in all honesty when and if the 4/5 I mentioned are back from injury.

    GK - ROD, Hornby, Sykes
    RB - Mellor, Henley
    LB - Wood,
CB - AOC, POC, BRE, French
CM - Palmer, Devitt, Cooke, Akpan, Devine, Reeves, Gibson
WG - Ismael, Connolly, Pritchard, Robinson
ST - Doyle, Vaughan, Donaldson, Oteh

    Ok maybe another defender...

I couldn't help it... Let's start it off again with the January window. I think we're in desperate need of a striker who likes to run in behind, any names?

Do we really need another player that doesn't get into the box?

Surely we need to work on Vaughan/Doyle getting into the box and others?

Possbily mate, but I think Vaughan is spending too much time with back to goal and someone who has pace can help Vaughan be in the box more than he has been.

The idea was Donaldson & Vaughan with Doyle as back up.

MR Rupp or/& Mr JR decided to loan Doyle out.

Now, point is Donaldson isn't a player that runs behind. Donaldson like Vaughan, like Doyle does his best work in the box.

We need to work on our style of play.

In midfield and up front it's alll confusing.

Which is why I'm suggesting a player who will run in behind is something we haven't really got and would compliment CD/JV well.

2 wingers and a striker for me.

CM has been a weak point for most of the season but if we can get the injured players back then a trio of Cooke, Palmer and Reeves looks VERY strong for this division.

Connelly, Pritchard and Ismail all made an impact when they first arrived but are now proving to be ineffective. Bring in 2 fast wingers who can cross and a quality striker and we're good to go.

Point is we don't need someone to compliment them we just need to work on our style.

BOWYER NEEDS TO STOP BEING A BORING NEGATIVE MANAGER!

Look, I have seen the goals for the Ginger Pele and studied Swindon as they're top. They're not scoring 30 yard screamers, they're mainly just getting bodies in the box. I think both @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam & @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey pointed this out and he's correct.

This league is weak! We just need to be brave. Football really isn't hard. Pace is important in the game but when I look at Man City, Liverpool, Swindon when they score they've about 4-5 players in the box.

Play Donaldson, Vaughan and Doyle to their strengths(Doyle showing that) with support in the box and we will beat most teams in this deadful league.

Fordy you're ranting about something I'm not interested in talking about mate, I'm talking about what we need and we clearly need another striker.

You're repeating yourself in every thread!!

Right back would be the first thing I'd be looking at.

Right Back is one of the weakest positions in the team but it's not the reason we're losing games. The defence, collectively atleast, are decent enough and will be even better with quality players in front of them. A lack of bite in the middle, poor service from out wide and a lack of options up front are the most concerning areas at the moment. Our problems in the centre should take of themselves with players set to return. Bring in 2 or 3 good attacking options to sort out the rest and the team looks good even with Henley/Mellor occupying RB.
