We had a few Girl Guides last season not sure about scouts.

 

Some poster on here I think brought him to City's attention last season when at Brighouse town- whether they followed it up - not sure.

 

Interesting. He may of course be out of his depth in league 2. James Hanson did well for us at this level after signing from Guiseley!

 

He's 28 years of age I'd think if he hasn't made league football by now it would be a risk bringing him in, it's one thing a 22 year old being given a chance but IMO not at 28.

 

Cook at Tranmere/Walsall has done ok. James Norwood another doing very well. Both entered the FL at a ripe age.

Not having a go at you but we have seen this board and C&B sneer at Billy Kee, Lyle Taylor, Tom Eaves and funilly enough Cook and Norwood over the last few years when linked with them.

Yet cream when Vaughan and Donaldson signed - despite both well past their best and abysmal goal scoring records in recent seasons.

 

Yeah watching Quest they mentioned the guy as leading goalscorer.They also said they could not believe Bradford had loaned Doyle to a club in the same division.Maybe the lad from Guiseley is worth a risk could be another Vardy ?

 

Yes I was one who didn't particularly rate Billy Kee although Gary Rowett said he was the best finisher he'd worked with he's doing OK at Accrington but as we know a striker can be poor at one club and a smash it at another, Lyle Tayor was playing league football at Sheffield United in 2013/14 season at 23 years old, Tom Eaves has played most of his football at league level although most of it on loan from Bolton.

Just my opinion that I would not be bringing a 28 year old into what we hope will be a promotion winning team.

If the lad looked good enough to step up a couple of levels, 28 years old would not be an issue for me. Whether he is good enough is a different matter altogether though.

14 goals in 12 games with Guiseley this season is impressive though. Worth scouting the lad who is playing local to us, surely?

A late developer ?, have a look by all means, but nah not for me.

 

Any player would be a risk bringing them in especially from non-league but he wouldn't be the first player to not get to his late 20's and not be picked up by a football league club. Have to remember that until he was 25 Vardy had only played non-league and now look at him. There's a reason why the Jamie Vardy academy has so much interest from scouts. Danny Rowe is a good example of someone who has scored for fun in non-league but no EFL clubs have taken a punt on him.

So until someone does take a punt on him we'll never know, as I posted above I'm sure there are many examples out there, and I'd think for every success twice as many have failed.

 

Agreed. Isn’t that what Edin hope to do. I think you’d agree we’ve been down that road too many times.
