Meredith bettered himself leaving us. Leigh made a sideways move to Bury. Still sticking to my opinion, that wouldnt have tried to sell the best left back in league 1 to persuade a sulking Leigh to stay with us

 

I don't think Leigh was sulking at all. He needed first team football at that stage of his career and wasn't going to get it behind Meredith at City.

 

I get your point but there are red flags there that we would be stupid to ignore.

“What the hell does Will Buckley contribute?” “Buckley promises little and delivers less”
“He is so lightweight and easily knocked off the ball”
“He is absolutely anonymous.”
“I hope I don’t have to suffer another afternoon of Buckley”
“He is never a winger in a million years”
“He’s incredibly slow, can’t cross and he lacks the skill to go past anyone”

Admittedly, they’re weren’t crazy about Donaldson either, but the comments were nowhere near as harsh. I’d rather give Wood a run on the left than waste a wage on a washed up slacker.

 

He wasn’t sulking he just wanted to play football probably the same reason Colville hasn’t signed a contract nobody can blame a player for that

 

It makes you wonder how he has had such a decent career then

 

Virtually all players in League Two will get these reviews in the Championship.

Very few will have the potential to play at that level, so it's hardly career ending

Yeah I get that Meredith has had his contract terminated for non footballing reasons, and Leigh is on loan in a mickey mouse league, because he couldnt hold down a regular starting role in another minor European League.

My opinion is still unchanged, Meredith was always a far better player than Leigh. Why would you get rid of one of your best players to keep an understudy happy,wouldnt have made sense then, still doesnt now, even in hindsight

 

If I only Sean was as quick as Gladstone.

 

Imagine wanting Leigh over Meredith

Ones a club legend, involved in our best seasons since the premier league, and is second only to Wayne Jacobs as a left back at the club in my life time. The other played about 4 games for us, scored a couple but looked no better than Connor Wood defensively.

Now I’d happily take Meredith back tonight and play Wood in front of him, that’s a recipe for success at this level!

 

apologies if already covered but just seen in T&A Bowyer mentions Callum Cooke but he makes no mention of Jamie Devitt. Not sure if it is even remotely significant. Would be nice if Jason Lowe was one of the possibilities being kept under wraps though.

 

The Dutch and SPL top flights are far superior than L2 and L1 and that is an absolute fact. There are no sides the quality and size of Rangers, Celtic, Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord and even then you have others like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs etc with far better structures than 95% of L1 and L2...what a bizarre comment to suit your narrative.

Meredith left for nothing, and at best was a low end Championship player BTW..... So selling him would have been a smart move. Losing players for free (especially best LB in league) is ludicrous business.

 

Its not about wanting, it was all hindsight and in hindsight we would have gotten £400,000 and in time the better player.

 

Even in time though, Leigh has not turned out to be the better player. So just dont get your logic, and where do you get £400k from, who was willing to pay that at the time?

Our mistake was not offering Meredith a new contract 6 months before he left, when he publicly declared he loved it here, and would be open to negotiating a new contract

 

Both Cooke and Devitt mentioned in today's T&A

 

The way it read to me was just based on how he was asked the questions. Seems like he was specifically asked on Cooke.

 

And a forward (no names) replacing Doyle as back up.

 

He’s not a better player though, and never will be.

Yeah Merediths obviously made a big mistake to get himself sacked but it certainly wasn’t on footballing ability. He was instrumental in Millwall nearly getting to the championship playoffs 2 seasons ago, Millwall fans on the one football forum had him as their best left back in the last 30 years.

Meanwhile Leigh was part of a team that got relegated from league 1, before moving to a small Dutch club and loaned out to a SPL team which isn’t Celtic or Rangers so may as well be league 2.

The only thing I’m gutted about is we couldn’t keep Mezza, didn’t bat an eye lid when Leigh left, and had forgot who he was till you brought him up on this thread.
