Just watching league 2 play off final, we could do a lot worse than Dan butler left back for Newport, out of contract in June, 24 yr old. played 120+games in last 3 years in league 2, won newports player of the year 2 of those 3 season's. Good energy and great delivery and more importantly proven at league 2 level which is what we need

 

Really? Can you go through the ones you rate and explain what “performances” you have seen that backs up your comment?

O’Donnell has back-to-back relegations and his form slumped so badly he got dropped for a kid that has since been released. Maybe he can regain his form.

Mellor is one that can excel next season if he’s still here

O’Connor has not pulled up any trees in any team he’s been at and his attitude stinks and not just at his time here. Has he ever shown he “has a performance in him”?

Richards-Everton is an unknown to us. However, he couldn’t break into the Accrington team and was often a back-up. Prior to that, he spent 3 seasons in Scotland and managed a total of 60 appearances.

Wood has been in an out of the side and had no proven form prior to joining. Let’s reflect on this again. He couldn’t force himself into the side ahead of Chicksen. Just digest that..!

Riley is even worse than Wood. Again, no evidence of being a player prior to joining us and has done absolutely nothing at VP.

Robinson is classed as a left-back or left-wingback, but has played his better games as a winger. However, he missed the majority of the season and may yet not be selectable next season either.

Akpan has now suffered 3 consecutive relegations and once again, just like at his other 2 previous clubs, lost his place in the team. Not convinced he’s good enough or has the work ethic needed in L2.

Wright has done very little throughout his career. Despite Park claiming we had signed a very good player and that the only problem had been managers playing him out of position, we saw his value. We all saw what those managers had seen and prompted them to release him.

Reeves was the pick for Wimbledon a few seasons ago and he carried that form on for us... well, at least for 3-4mths anyway. This went downhill (injuries?) before he disappeared for 18mths with no return in sight.

Devine has been signed up for 1yr as there is hope he may still make it. However, I’d be surprised if he starts more games than I have fingers.

Scannell is another that flattered to deceive. Has the tricks and a bit of pace, but his end product was often poor. He hasn’t completed more than 2/3rds of a season for many a year now and before he joined, we were warned about his fitness. Another 6-7mths out didn’t help, but has he delivered anything since 2016?

Doyle is one that may be able to perform in L2. Seems to struggle higher up the pyramid but may be able to do a job at this level with a decent partner alongside him.

Patrick was loaned out to L2 last season and was so poor, they didn’t play him. You expect him to play a part?

McCartan is a strange one. Has scored some cracking goals and clearly has a talent but he’s inconsistent. Had a good 4mths at Accrington and has spells at Lincoln too. But only starting 20 times last season in L2 it’s great.

Gibson was desperate to get game time and challenged Grayson’s comments towards his work ethic. Was loaned to Stevenage in L2 and played a total of 237mins in just 6 appearances. Before then, he flattered to deceive at City, his first professional club.

Anderson/Colville have not yet signed the offers made to them, so there’s not much point in discussing them at this point.

I won’t write up about the likes of Staunton, Sykes-Kenworthy, Goldthorpe or Ellington as these are just kids still learning and I don’t see any of them breaking into the first team squad on a regular basis.

Pretty certain that if Doyle played last season with our defence he would have done as bad as OD.

Imagine last season never happened (did it/didn't it..?) and this week we signed the likes of Doyle, Scannell, Payne and Butterfield then we would all be running down to the bookies to put our mortgages on being league 2 champions by a mile for next season...
There needs to be so much better management, cohesion and commitment this time from everybody associated with the club whoever we sign...

Just speak to them like adults I suppose? Tell them that they aren't first choice and they are free to leave but equally if they want to stay and work hard then the door is always open for them to prove him wrong.

Maybe I'm simplifying it too much and we all know footballers can sometimes have huge egos and act like babies at times but being honest with players should only help avoid unnecessary conflict in the long run.
