I just can’t see him sacking him. Who else would come and work for our club? and try and get the best out of the Rahic signings. He had the door well and truly slammed in his face during the summer. So DH is here for the foreseeable. If he really wants his staff, my guess is they would have to get down the side of the sofa, draws, and under the bed to make sure it happens.

No way would DH sacrifice the January budget though, so it would need to be extra money. Maybe they are going to see what’s left after January?

I watched last night's game back and he was utterly atrocious. Just like the rest of the European imports since Edin has been here. Staunton was head and shoulders above this joker.

 

Hopkin agreed that Staunton was the best defender and the lad Goldthorp was the best midfielder.

Two 16 year olds.

And some reckon the problem is inexperience.

It's actually just ability.

That's the main problem.

 

I'd rather us have better coaches for our own youth, which we don't actually have that bad a record of producing if you include the ones we sold on before they got to the first team, than waste resources on garbage rejects. But hey ho if the top man at the club knows better...

In my ignorance that is exactly what I thought they said they would do. Develop our own kids, plus buy the odd young player from the various academies on both sides of the Penines. At no point did I think they would be included in the first team until they were ready.

The Elite Player Perfomance Plan (EPPP) has all but put paid to youth development in the lower leagues because it's no longer a viable option for making money.

Basically EFL clubs sold off the chance to earn big money from selling young players to the top clubs in exchange for a small slice of the PL TV money so the days of fleecing Everton for £1m+ for George Green are long gone, all they'd have to shell out now would be a nominal amount to cover his initial coaching.

The maximum we can get from a youth player now is £3,000 per year for every year we had them in the U9-U11 range and £12,500 for every year in the U12-U16 range plus £10,000 for every 10 1st team games they've played up to 100 matches. There's an additional sell on clause of 20% if the player is subsequently sold on again before they're 23 which drops to 5% once they're 23 years old.

Hopkin has indicated in today's T&A that he has drawn up a list of players he wants Rahic to target both in January and the summer.

It sounds to me that he taken on responsibility for recruitment. Can't be any worse than Abbo in identifying targets that's for sure

 

He's just what we need. Don't understand why we haven't given him a short deal.

 

Important to remember he used the word 'we' in regard to identifying targets.On his past record, I have lost faith, as you, in Gregg, But the words are the same as before, as are the risks and worries of availability and that is the worry for me.

Another good post @Fuzzy interesting read, one of the few ways clubs like our can generate money has been watered down to benefit PL teams, no surprise there then .
