Not sure you're quite right there, because Jim O'brien had a contract until June 2019 at Ross County.

I'm not sure why, or when, he was released.

 

He was quoted in the T&A this morning saying he's played 3 at the back to suit the players he had available.

He also said when he gets more back he'll play the position that suits them best.

He wasn't wedded to any particular formation apparently

Your right about his Ross County contract and, like you, I am not sure why he was released from his contract but I am fairly sure that I read somewhere, possibly from Simon Parker, that JO'B had been training for some time with Barnsley before we signed him. Hence, there could be someone else training with us, as rumoured, but not being signed by DH until he is considered fully fit and ready for action.

 

He left Ross County on 1 July, despite having a contract until the following summer. So, irrespective of anything else, he WAS a free agent and had been all summer, so how am I “not quite right there”????

I believe a number of players were given renegotiated deals following their relegation and this allowed the players to walk away for free. I know Routis was one of them and it’s possible O’Brien was another

 

I seem to remember O'Brien had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.Maybe his wage was unsustainable in the championship?

Well no one knows the true facts so we will have to let ramifications take their course. All round..a shame.

 

Personally don't think we'll see him again this season. Especially if we're waiting until an investigation is closed, rather than him just being released without charge.
