What is wrong with Clare a young lad we brought in from Barnsley? Somebody must have seen something we can develop?? He is a tall striker, maybe we can develop his holding up and heading ability?

Onside, think the problem might be with who it was that saw something! With him and Brunk we would have been far, far better trying to bring in one proven 'target man' type striker. I certainly dont want to write him off but I dont think he has shown DH enough for him to put him in at this stage

It goes back to the "what is the point of Bruenker" thread from a while ago. The problem we have with these players is that they're here to be developed but they don't fit in to the way we have been set up to play this season so they're stuck in a catch 22 situation. They're not the type of player who can easily fit in to our current style of play and not (yet) good enough to warrant changing our entire style of play to bring them on as a Plan B if we're chasing a game.

Get an experienced big forward in and it gives us a viable option to build around, even if it's only as a Plan B and it gives us a reason to keep developing the likes of Bruenker and Clare because there's a role in the team for them.

Or by getting a striker coach in to try develop these players instead of having to buy another striker.

There isn't a role for Bruenker - I'd have trouble trusting him to carry the water bottles onto the pitch at stoppages in play.

not seen Clare so I can't speak for him.

The role that Bruenker/Clare will play as the "big forrard" doesn't exist in our team at the moment and they're not currently good enough to warrant changing the way we play to accomodate them so they're going to struggle to get game time. It's not a criticism of them as individiual players, it's not their fault, they're part of the dev squad so they weren't brought in to be fully formed first teamers but rather to be coached and developed, however, there just isn't a path in to the first XI for them so they're stuck in limbo.

Yes I get that Fuzzy and I agree with everything you've said. I don't think Clare is in limbo and thankfully he hasn't been dropped in it to be the big farrad that some think is the answer, he's obviously not good enough yet to warrant a place on the bench and should be kept in the development squad to develop. Kai unfortunately was chucked in at the deep end and is struggling to swim.

Just shows what some chairman fail to realise is that the appointment of a bad or inexperienced manager can let your good players go and replace with poor players with his lack of judgement, It can lower the talent in the whole club and can take a long time to make right and even relegation or near, It beggars belief that some chairman go down that route usually in a false attempt to save money or gain more influence on the football side.
Fortunately some chairmen realise the mistake quickly or are pressurised by the fans and social media to correct it before huge damage is done to the club

Not sure I agree entirely with that. If we are after a ‘big striker’ who doesn’t have to do much else but support his strike partner, then we could look no further than Steve Davies. Never been much of a fan in relation to his goalscoring and his fitness is a obviously a concern as he’s been injury prone the last few seasons, but still, couldn’t he do a job until January?

Besides, I’m more concerned about the lack of a leader in the back line. None of our central defenders take ownership and we are conceding far too many goals and soft ones at that. Surely there is a free agent out there than can help shore up that defence? If we do nothing, we could get cast adrift by January

Claire is only 18. Chances are he's never going to be as good as a McBurnie, and he looked nowhere near ready at that sort of age (17 in his case).

I cannot imagine at 18 he's anything but a bean pole.

But if he can come on physically, as well as in terms of ability, he already has an enviable physical attribute.

Doesn't mean he'll be ready any time soon, though, and questioning where he is right now isn't so important.

I think a lack of leader at the back is possibly due to the players all being new to the club and none of them seem to want to take a lead role.I think even if DH appoints someone at the back to take charge it's better than leaving it up to a group where nobody does that naturally.

I think DH needs to look at the club captaincy as I don't think Wright is the best we can do.He doesn't lead by example in my mind.

My concerns with a striker is we could recruit someone nobody wants and for good reason,so although I can't see where the goals are going to come from I would rather Jones has a shot with Doyle and see if they have the guile to be creative without needing a lump up front.

I don't envy our Coach trying to mould a team fit for purpose from someone else's hit list. I agree that we need a commanding leader at the back, which I am hoping is the number one priority. As others have pointed out, it is a losing battle to gain points when we have a sloppy defence and no collective sting up front. Has to be a given that Edin recognises the same flaws and supports him with urgency, to bring in those capable, albeit at this late stage, that can do the job for the team.

I’d be happy with him just being fit. Shooting isn’t even necessary at this point :p

Signing players not signed up by other clubs isn’t always a bad thing. We signed Akpan and Wright in the summer but Jim O’Brien does the work of both of them combined.... and nobody ‘wanted’ him.
