Agreed. I guess last Saturday frightened the life out of me. McGowan looks like some Sunday league players as soon as he's exposed to anyone with pace, i.e. can only play CB and then has to have a 'footballing' partner (i.e. NKP).

 

I have been trying to think of a player at our level who can genuinely play in two positions. I suppose Marshal was happy to switch wings, but still wanted to use his left foot. There aren’t many defensive players who can play with both feet, I have seen attacking players in the PL using both feet equally, that lad Aubameyang seems a natural.

 

Well tbh, our former skipper Vince wasn't bad in midfield or at cb. In fact, I thought he was actually better at cb than he was in his preferred position in the centre of the park.
But now look what's happened to him. If you don't stick in one position, you don't progress in that position. Jack of all trades and master of none and other such phrases.

*watch him score a blinder against us for Shrews....

 

Agree with this but the same logic could be used to argue that we wouldn't know whether Woods was by far and away the best option available to us as well.

There is enough evidence to suggest that Woods is capable of stepping in as a much needed left back. His fitness is the only question from what I can see.

 

I agree you don't see many players at our level who are comfortable playing left or right, on the other hand you sign someone like Wood who's played at a higher level most of his career and is dropping down the league his past experience and knowledge of the game usually get them through.

Well it looks like the left full back birth will be filled with a player called Wood but his Christian name will be Callum rather than Connor.

 

Good point that. Means Connor Wood is now third choice. Can't see him liking that much....

 

It's Calum Woods, not Wood.

 

If we can keep him fit will give the opportunity to play Connor Wood in the holding midfield role instead of Akpan, Much more mobile and better pressing forward giving better support

I actually think Connor Wood is better as a wing back or even possibly left midfield. I suspect its his defensive full back qualities that are stopping him making the position his own

 

If we play Connor wood in holding midfield we might aswell be relegated now

You might be right. But given that we're in the fight of our lives, i'd like to see us responding to the essential of requirement of needing a midfielder, by signing a midfielder.

Not keeping JOB could prove to be a huge mistake.

Of course it's "perfectly reasonable to question the wisdom of any signing" - it's not perfectly reasonable to stereotype people, simply because they have a different way of looking at things to you

It could but he also started picking up injuries.

I liked the guy but I think the decision around shows how difficult decisions in football can be at times.

Imagine we offered him an 18 month contract and then he does his hamstring and is out for 3 months.
