No I’m moaning about workers that have very good pay and conditions who are now refusing to work and affecting millions of peoples plans and work commitments. I think you’re struggling to grasp this quite badly.

It's less than 3 years since Macclesfield Town's players went on strike, forcing them to call off their league match against Crewe and play their youth team in the FA Cup (resulting in them being thrashed at home by 7th tier Kingstonian).

You're moaning saying what about us, well what about you? if you dont like your conditions you're welcome to organise with your colleagues and fight for better. If you're happy then why are you commenting? It just seems like jealousy to me more than anything

I’m sorry but this debate is now becoming unhealthy and you’re starting to make accusations for the sake of it. Agree to disagree and may our paths cross again on a more City aligned topic.

I see that communist Mick Lynch is now blaming Ukraine for the Russian invasion of their country saying that they provoked the sensitive Putin with Nazi imagery.

Not content with winding up the British public with his senseless train strikes, the idiot is now having an unjust go at Ukraine.

Deport the fool to Russia I say

calling mick lynch a communist is absolute nonsense of the highest order. to go on strike, members have to send in a postal vote in a secret ballot, thanks to rules brought in by thatcher and later cameron, which means a turnout of over 50% of members is required for the result to even count. it isn't a closed shop with no obligation to ballot members like it used to be. stop living in the 70s and get real.

Bottom line is you've got overpaid workers going on strike for more money at a time the country can least afford it.......

Who says they're overpaid? and why is almost every public sector industry also going out on strike? is the country overrun by communists that miraculously nobody noticed? The bottom line is that after wage growth has stagnated and peoples standard of living has dropped almost continuously for the past 12 years and people have had enough of it, when we are supposedly one of the richest countries in the world.

Spot on. The Tories have driven the economy, and millions of people's real wages, into the ground for twelve years. Whilst those at the top of the pile have seen their incomes increase extravagantly. Eventually, people say enough is enough and start to defend themselves.

So we have the incentive available to everybody to reach the top of the pile.......but oh no, we'd have to work for it...!!

Ah, the good old Tory 'incentive' cliché. It's a ridiculous fallacy.

Firstly, it's impossible for everyone, or even most people, to reach the top of the pile, because there are only a few places there. So, no matter how much incentive there is, hard work cannot get most people to the top.

Secondly, those who start with massive advantages over others - inherited wealth, public school education, the right contacts etc, form the vast majority of those at the top of the pile. And they make sure that their kids, grandchildren etc have the same huge head start so the riff raff don't supplant them. The few oiks from the bottom who make it to the top stand out as the exceptions that prove the rule that the vast majority don't, and can't.

Thirdly, the idea that those at the top require to be paid ridiculously high levels of remuneration to incentivise them to keep doing it is rubbish. They already earn massively more than the vast bulk of the population and live extremely comfortable lifestyles, without being paid so much that they hardly know what to do with the money.

Fourthly, the idea that the massive salaries earned by the rich are the result of their hard work and risk taking is frequently untrue. Many company directors etc earn crazy sums of money for very few hours work. Also, many people at the top are financially rewarded for failure with big payoffs, even as the staff of their failed companies are laid off with a pittance.

Fifthly, many people at the bottom of the pile work incredibly hard, but still make very little money. The assumption that those at the bottom are there because they are lazy is insulting nonsense. Lord preserve us from holier than thou self employed types' who assume everyone working on a regular wage is a shirker.

Only fools work hard and i include myself as a fool because i know no better. Its the way the world has always been and always has been. Grafters are paid to graft. No point having a dog and barking yourself. This idea that somehow the world should be fair is a wonderfully naive way of looking at it.

Then the notion of working hard being all you need to succeed is rightfully incorrect. Life isn't fair and the people who benefit from the way the world works works very hard to keep it that way, including convincing millions of people who will never realistically become millionaires that they just might be if they work hard enough. The vast majority of working people are much more likely to become homeless than become millionaires. It's also why working people need to stand together because the only way the masses dont get mercilessly exploited is by standing together and fighting for better conditions, not shrugging shoulders and accepting it as just the way things are. If everyone had the attitude of some on this forum we'd still have 7 day working weeks and workhouses, because that's just the way things are and nobody can do anything.

Theres nothing wrong with hard work but in the right context. My Dad, god rest him, set up his own business, worked pretty much on his own 6/7 days a week, sometimes upto 16 hours a day to put a roof over his head and food on the table. My dad was from a generation of working class people who knew nothing but hard work, it was the only option when you left education. Either mill work or the armed forces. But there was always that incentive if you grafted and put the hours in you were rewarded for your efforts. My dad was from a different generation, i can say i never once heard him moan about his lot in life, he accepted the cards life had dealt him and knew hard work was the only way to a better standard of life.

See, this is where i look at todays society and see a sense of unearned entitlement amongst this generation (not all before the faux outrage comes in). Theres more opportunity now than ever, more facitiies to help you succeed. But, first and foremost, you need hard work.
