I can't believe folk can't see the bigger picture and not fall for the media trick of allowing the well worn 'train drivers earn over £60,000' to be aired over and again at strategic times of the day when the most impressionable folk will be watching. Divide and conquer still alive and well it seems.

My thoughts are with the millions that want/need to get to work but can't because of these greedy bar stewards...but that as always is what these destructive unions are really all about and they will end up paying with their jobs....just watch..

Strikes are the last resort Tone, no one wants to cause disruption for the sake of it. Problem is it's the only way of fighting a government thats more interested in lining the pockets of its own than the workers. They say we're all in it together, the profits made by CEOs, owners and shareholders suggests that's clearly not the case.

Saw this comment this morning, couldn't agree more...

I am lucky in that I very rarely use trains but I do have friends who work on them. Obviously I don't know their salaries but they definitely have a higher standard of living than me but seem to be home all the time even when not on strike. I think this strike will lead to more job losses and automation, the offer on the table 8% no compulsory redundancies is good for an organisation that is not making a profit year on year and they should take it. I would be more than happy with an 8% pay rise but will have to wait and see what i am offered.

I see even Starmer has sacked his junior transport minister for backing these ridiculous strikes

What a strange move. The unions are largely playing these political games for the benefit of the Labour Party anyway so for Starmer to do something which seemingly implies a lack of support is very weird.

And that is why I’m not voting at all anymore. Politics in this country is totally in the bin. Don’t even get me started with trains and strikes, never known a bunch of over paid, under worked bunch of whiners who work for a system that doesn’t work at all and hardly makes any money (post covid) yet they think they’re hard done by with an 8% pay rise and no redundancies. They’re on a different planet and totally deserve to have egg on their face when we get fully automated trains which can’t come soon enough. Like yesterday when I get a call from my missus at 430pm “can you come get me from Forster square all trains are cancelled due to lack of staff”. USELESS!!!!!

Shock, all trains this morning from Ilkley to Forster Square cancelled due to staff being delayed. So this is now the fourth time this has happened and it’s getting clear the staff are doing this on purpose on non strike days. If they do it on Saturday when families want to go to the game and enjoy their weekend then for all I’m concerned sack them all. Entitled assholes.

Not sure it is 8%. It was reported as that but is actuall 4% a year for 2 years when inflation over 2 years will be forcast as much more than that

They should use the same index they use for putting up ticket prices for putting up wages each year.

A big mistake IMO he shouldn't have to ask permission from Sir Keir to stand on a picket line, is Sir Keir worried it will rebound on the Labour Party when people say you had opposition front benchers stood side by side with strikers, the unions have you in their pocket, its nonsense.

Apparently Starmer claimed he was not sacked for going on the picket line but for giving an interview claiming Labour would give them a massive increase in pay, Giving promised policies in interviews without clearance is a sackable offence ( as is having any policy over anything under Starmer )

not your fault the same as it isn't their fault, i dont think there's a hierarchy of sacrifice and that anyone who worked through covid deserves respect. i think as someone who worked through covid you'd have more respect for others who did the same

I can see why to an extent, given some of the tories were trying to call them 'Labour's Strikes' (found that revealing as to how stupid they think people are). However the labour party should represent the labour movement instead of trying to actively avoid any association with it. The strikes now aren't scargill bring everything down types, and you only have to listen to people like Mick Lynch talk for a little bit to realise that.
