My point is that I’m private sector working flat out constantly with a small pay rise every now and then , but nothing like train staff, hell I’d snap my hands off my boss if he offered me an 8 percent pay rise right now. So yeah train staff the most entitled work force I’ve ever come across and I’m including footballers in that! Oh and they’re the pettiest people I’ve come across, 2 minutes before departure and they’re only starting to open the doors at Leeds station.

So you want train drivers to have worse conditions because you haven't got the nads to fight for better conditions in your own job?

This is the down side of the private sector becoming almost totally non-unionised. You are at the mercy of your employer, with virtually no leverage to do anything about it. Meanwhile, company directors have been awarding themselves bigger and bigger salary increases for the last decade, even as the economy falters and ordinary people like you see their standard of living go down the toilet. And the Tories want to make it even harder for ordinary workers to act together to protect themselves. Madness.
BTW, most public sector workers haven't had a decent pay increase since the Tories came to power in 2010. Some have gone several years running with no increase whatsoever.

Well, if you are happy to see your wages continually go down in real terms then bully for you. But don't be surprised if most other people aren't and are increasingly motivated to do something about it.

I’ll just leave and find something better like most normal people do and not let it affect other people like selfish strikes do.

Total bollocks and I don’t even like or entertain politics. There’s been pay rises consistently for all my friends over the past ten years and they have a broad range of jobs.

Well I had a rise at the start of the year and I work in a industry where I can leave tomorrow and pretty much choose my salary (within reason of course), my point being that why should anyones terms and conditions affect someone else. Don’t like your career or job do something about it that only affects you!

What who want ? Blaming the government again? Yes they’re not the best in regards to rising costs but there’s an abundance of opportunities out there and I think for the first time in a very long time the employee holds the cards. (Not train staff though who can’t read the room and work for a mainly loss making industry since covid).

It was the ace the players union Jimmy Hill & co had without footballer there's no game, that was a massive gamble for both sides but the players believed in their union just as the railway strikers.

Sorry, I'm afraid that you're the one talking bollocks.

Some examples of real terms pay decreases from 2009 - 2021:

    Paramedics -2.8%
    Police Officers -13%
    Primary School Teachers/Nursery Nurses -11.8%
    Secondary School Teachers -9.7%
    Social Workers -3%
    Nurses -5.3%
    Prison Officers -10.4%
    Firefighters -4.2%

Public Sector Average real terms pay decline -4.3%

These are Office of National Statistics figures.

Nurses saw a real terms decline in their pay five years running from 2010-2015. I know from experience that local authority staff went three years without any pay increase at all during that same period.

Just like that, eh? That simple is it? If you've studied and worked for years to get a specific qualification plus years of experience in your chosen field, are you just going to walk away from all of that and go into a different area of employment, that you have no knowledge or experience in? How is that going to get you 'something better'? You'd be starting at the bottom, with no chance of getting anywhere near the wage you just gave up, let alone bettering it. Who is going to do that with family to support, mortgage to pay etc. Get real.

Simplistic crap. It maybe easy to just move around if you're young and single, without family commitments, or having put years into gaining a qualification in a specific field that doesn't have general transferability.

And just like that when these train guys are striking and the rug is pulled from underneath them they’ll realise how good they had it. Like I say a lot of these train workers need to get real, especially when many of them don’t have transferable skills like you hint at. However what I will agree with you on is the aforementioned workers in your post, especially nurses, now those are the guys I feel sorry for. What I really admire about them is that they still get on with it instead of striking but do need to be paid much more with much better conditions, but sometimes I feel people do it more as a vocation.
