You might say it's a PR job but I'm sure for many people it actually sounds "real" and reflective of their life experiences. That's more important than who wrote it, it actually resonates for once.

I don't actually think it says that structural racism doesn't exist at all. I think it says that there a wide variety of factors involves in society of which one is a part, but it isn't the most problematic or impactfull

No report is going to be written without any side accusing the writers of bias. You gave to take these things for what they are.

If they did I'd hope Abbott would have been better at writing than she is at counting.

Thick as mince that woman. Never mind race, having the IQ of a bookshelf didn't prevent her rising to a senior position of power and influence in politics.

And answer me this.. if racism is such a big issue in this country how the hell did Abbott, Lammy and Khan manage to attain the positions that they have, a whole cross section of society must have voted for them, why though i'll never know....

Because, in Abbott and Lammy's cases, they are bloody good constituency MPs who are very popular in their respective areas. Likewise Khan is very popular in London and likely to get re-elected as Mayor.
Despite what you think, all three are very bright and competent people. The fact that they attract such a disproportionate level of criticism and hate compared to the useless bunch of Eton toffs running this country speaks volumes about discriminatory attitudes in this country.

What utter bullshit. Tell that to the many black people who work hard, get higher education and professional qualifications and then don't even get interviews for jobs because their names sound too black. This isn't a myth, it's been demonstrated in several anonimised studies and is the lived experience of many black people. What about the vastly disproportionate police stop & search of black people - I suppose that's just coincidence is it?
I worked in the mental health system for 25 years and saw numerous ways in which minorities are discriminated against. Higher rates of sectioning, massively lower access to talking therapies, significantly higher doses of mind numbing neuroleptic drugs, virtually total absence of culturally appropriate care on psych wards, etc etc.
Examples of institutional racism are legion. Only people who don't want to see it, or else don't understand what it means, could deny its reality. Many people seem to think that institutional racism means an organisation sets out to be deliberately racist, but that's not what it means or how it works. It's the cumulative combination of millions of day to day ( often unconscious) discriminatory acts that add up to organisations becoming/remaining institutionally racist, usually through ignorance rather than design.
Why do so many white people get so offended by the idea, when it's so blindingly obvious that it happens all the time?

Sport? Music? Drama? The Governments cabinet office is represented by BAME members according to their % within the population. And whilst I don’t know that I’d term it as ‘favour’ as such, in so many professions now, the proactive attempts to ensure access to opportunities for roles and employment are accessible to BAME candidates is profound. In my business, a significant amount of our recruitment activity and people management and wellbeing activity, measures race, ethnicity, gender. If we advertise for a role and the amount of applicants is significantly under represented on the basis of race and gender, we make very strong efforts to re-advertise and proactively engage candidates from those under-represented groups. We look at every grade and salary within our business using data on race and gender, sexuality. And we’re far from unique, that sort of thing is commonplace. Most organisations have some form of Diversity based specialist(s) employed. Have a look on LinkedIN - the proactive support of BAME and female professionals is the the most common subject published on that platform. Doesn’t the governments report speak to the strong performance of BAME school students, indeed citing that BAME students are out performing white students?

One key part of the report touches on the family demographic within black communities. It’s very widely and well researched, and accepted, that growing up in a single parent family is the biggest predictor of a persons chances of living their life in poverty and being involved in crime. And black communities tend to have much higher rates of single parenthood. It’s the first time I’ve seen it mentioned in any mainstream media during the last 12 months and it’s central to so much of the debate. But no one seems willing to discuss the role it plays - much easier to defer to ‘white oppression’

It is impossible to take surveys or reports from the BBC or Guardian seriously, They are the most biased organisations in the media and always have an agenda to follow, It would be of more value if you opened your mind to other more balanced views,

Yes, it's become crystal clear that the report writers systematically ignored the views of those asked to contribute if they didn't fit the narrative that the government/report leaders set out to produce.

I know. That wasn't the study I was talking about the other one was conducted in 2008 I believe.

As you say the situation is now less bad so using old studies will show a different outcome and tie ourselves to less progressive times.

The actual study on that BBC link you posted gave the answer about the male/female disparity. It showed that men were 5% less likely to get a response back to a CV application (for context -"ethnic" names were 9% less likely than "white" names) and that sounds counterintuitive to me. While not discrediting the study in the slightest it does give thought to the fact that different outcomes are multi faceted not just simply along traditional systemic lines.

The Main catchment area for Belle vue in the 60s was Maningham / Carlisle rd etc , i lived at Odsal ( but my grandad ex Belle vue ) insisted i went . We all got on played in the same football - Cricket and Rugby teams , we all hung around together and there was very little inter racial trouble . Its all changed now which is such a shame .
