I think it also should be considered whether the players / management are in the right frame of mind to play less than a week after her majesty’s passing.

I’m sure many supporters, particularly those of an older generation, and Ex-service supporters, may not quite be ready to return to normality either and attendances will be well down.

No games should be played until after the funeral and then, only then, proceedings could continue on a case by case basis.

If u16 matches at any level require a police presence at them there is something drastically wrong. None of it should have been cancelled last weekend, midweek or next weekend but just taking the juniors how long does it take to say that matches at a junior level outside the professional leagues can go ahead and send that out took me a few seconds to type that.

    Well said.

For me, this whole season should be cancelled.

The telegraph and Argus report this morning.

Not necessarily confirming what we suspect but certainly leading that way.

"It is understood that next weekend’s fixture list, when City are due to host Stevenage, could be cancelled again in the build-up to the Queen’s State Funeral on the Bank Holiday Monday.

The decision will once more be made by the football authorities but they could be under pressure because of policing demands"

They seem to manage in other Sports!
Have a look at Rugby both League and Union, both have competitive fixtures next Saturday.
Horse Racing has 5 meetings on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Can you explain why these sports should be exempt?
The Queen’s Grand daughter is married to a former Rugby Union star.
The Queen was genuinely interested in Horse Racing and a great patron.
Genuine Question, why do you think Football should be ‘out of step’ with these sports?
I think Rugger followers and many who go to Horse Racing meets will be of both an ‘older generation’ and Ex-Services.

Maybe people in every day life don't want to go to work but we have to.

Watching BBC news last night many standing in the Royal Mile were not paying respect.
They were ensuring that they got a photo or film on their phones to record the fact that they were present as the coffin passed.

But it opens a can of worms. If they allow u16 matches some of which can actually have a hundred or more watching how can they then justify not allowing the region leagues to go ahead. If the regional leagues are allowed how do they justify not allowing National League North and south play when the smallest teams only get 100-300. If they let the national league north and south play how do they justify not letting the national league play where some teams get less than the biggest teams in north and south etc etc. It was going to get even more messy with clubs complaining if they made such an arbitrary call. It really needed a game by game review alongside the other smaller sports with the local police who had already had a discussion between them about the likely amount of officers so they could work out what was viable but that wasn’t possible

There is also the potential for abuse. Again as soon as the games were postponed one EFL team tried to arrange a friendly (I’ve actually seen some people saying it was City) Whichever team it was they were supposedly pitching higher up EPL and EFL teams to come and play them to take advantage of no football to ensure a sell out and also to be able to sell streaming with the postponements removing the 3pm blackout. Would some teams have tried some other get around if they had said u16's allowed. Women's teams will actually often play the u16's so could they have cashed in on the Euro success and had their woman's teams play the u16s and argued it was an u16 match. Or find a way to let some of the first team play with the u16 to again cash in on there being few other choices for a football fix.

Absolute rubbish. Older supporters and citizens want normal life as soon as they have paid their respects, I don’t want it ramming down my neck morning, noon and night. Last weekend , absolutely fine as a mark of respect and funeral day of course, anything else and parading coffins whatever is Victorian morbid overkill.

Seeing the “ family “ smiling and waving doing nationwide trips and now Truss has joined in to make political capital out of it is frankly sick. Remember they are supposed to be in mourning….?

Once the faux mourning is over we will get back normality where for most of us the royal family is about as far removed from our lives as us living on Mars. All this tugging of forelocks and being subserviant toward an apparently higher class of human being is quite sickening.

I agree with his comment with regards the many of the older generation and those who have been in the armed forces having a different opinion on her passing, but not with regards not being ready to go back to work, especially in this present day and age.

Everything else around the Queen's passing seems to have been meticulously planned and I'm left wondering why the same could not have applied to sports fixtures and other events. This way we'd have avoided the arbitrary confusion that we now found ourselves in whereby professional rugby/ cricket fixtures etc can continue whereas an amateur football one attracting probably no more than a dozen spectators couldn't.
Certainly not intended to be a political point but the government have taken the soft option by leaving it to each sports authority to make their own choice whether to postpone or continue in a respectful manner leading to the frustration that many of us feel.

I think the majority of the population wish to show some respect to a sovereign who has devoted her whole life to the country. That doesn’t mean life shouldn’t go on of course it should. There has been a little overkill with regards tv programming and the like but in my opinion football got it right with a one off show of respect.

Do you really think Potter has allowed the Chelsea players some head space? This hiatus in fixtures being played has fallen right into his lap in terms of time to work with his new group of players on the training ground and I bet he's taken full advantage. The break in fixtures has nothing to do with players who will be working as normal.
