No time for either of them. Thought it quite ironic that there's a video of Truss' speech when she was at a Lib Dem conference where she advocates removing the monarchy entirely. I understand that people's politics can shift over time, but I don't know anyone who's ever gone from ardent republican to fervent monarchist. That's the thing with the new PM, I don't think she has any real principles, it's all about ambition rather than conviction, if you don't like one of her views, she can change it on a whim.

 

People can pay their respect in many different ways though. Some may prefer to stay at home and have a period of quiet reflection, others might feel the need to go on pilgrimage to Buckingham Palace or one of the other royal residences to lay flowers and be with other like minded royalists. Both of those things are fine if that's what floats your boat, but what about the scores of other people who don't want to do that? It doesn't mean we don't acknowledge the 70 years of service she has given to the country just because we don't feel the need to be in mourning for the next 2 weeks, and it doesn't mean we are being disrespectful because we would rather have a football match go ahead rather than be cancelled. You could even argue that having thousands of people standing together tomorrow across the length and breadth of the country in a minutes silence just before 3pm will enable people to show more respect and gratitude for her years of service than sitting at home and feeling sad about her passing could ever do.

 

Make your mind up . Your saying cricket flights back so couldn’t cancel then you preceded too say fighters from all over the world have cancelled and that why it’s the governments fault .

The government have clearly said sporting events can carry on . That why some are . Blame the FA , league and clubs .

This guy is not a happy bunny. His brother has travelled from New Zealand to the UK specifically to attend the West Ham v Newcastle match on Sunday, so I'm not surprised. No doubt there are thousands of others who have had long made plans wrecked by this daft decision to postpone games.

Test Match resuming on Saturday. Racing going ahead on Sunday. Rugby continuing. So what on earth is the point of cancelling football in a season already severely congested by the winter World Cup. Bonkers

 

Everyone who took part should be charged with treason IMO.

 

Guess they will have to call off all fixtures as a mark of respect though I don't think its entirely necessary, the papers and the telly are a complete no no for at least the week ahead now...

 

Fair enough on the day of the funeral but before then calling everything off seems OTT.

I don’t see the point of them now.

Don’t even get ten days off to work to officially mourn our own relatives, who have a far greater impact and influence in our day to day lives.

 

Truly ridiculous decision but not an unsurprising one when you see its the Premier League and EFL who made it. Zero concerns for the fans as per usual, particularly those who have non refundable travel and accommodation booked. Meanwhile, the rugby is still going ahead tomorrow. How does football keep getting it so wrong?

 

My comments are in line with the EFL statement which I have seen and is aligned to the FA and PL. The statement makes clear it’s only 9&10 September matches and my message from the Club says unless there is a change by those Authorities our next game is Tranmere on Tuesday.
