I remember where I was when I was told King George had died. Of course we didn't own a television and communal mourning hadn't been invented.
I was quite excited to watch the Queens coronation on a neighbour's tv.
She was an old lady who had all her faculties and was well cared for until death.

A few months ago my wife's parents, both in their 90s, died within 10days of each other. We celebrated their long lives rather mourning for weeks.

    Fair play, Dennis.

FWIW, despite my views, I did think Queen Elizabeth II was one of the ’good’ people. elsewhere in the Royal Family now there’s only William and Kate I fully respect as they behave as those in their position should.

Dont disagree but the extent of it I do disagree with as I said earlier. It’s that choice that I make rather than one foisted upon me which seems to apply in this instance. We are where we are but it won’t change my opinion , rather it’s a case of bear with it.

I don’t see the point of them now.

However, it is what it is and the Queen should be respected.

No time for either of them. Thought it quite ironic that there's a video of Truss' speech when she was at a Lib Dem conference where she advocates removing the monarchy entirely. I understand that people's politics can shift over time, but I don't know anyone who's ever gone from ardent republican to fervent monarchist. That's the thing with the new PM, I don't think she has any real principles, it's all about ambition rather than conviction, if you don't like one of her views, she can change it on a whim.

The last of her kind, the monarchy will change immeasurably from now on and when future kings die we won't see this at all.

It's quite right, and wholly appropriate that we mark 70 years of unswerving service and loyalty to the UK & Commonwealth with a period of mourning, and if that means the world stops for a while, then so be it.

I'm a massive monarchist, but I don't see that being the same after yesterday. She's been part of most of us for all our lives and it's time to show the utmost respect.

    God bless you ma'am.

I hate it. Regardless of the lyrics, the tune is an abominable dirge. I'd much rather have Jerusalem, except that the lyric only references England. I Vow To Thee My Country might work though. Can't see it changing, all the while we have a monarchy, sadly.

People can pay their respect in many different ways though. Some may prefer to stay at home and have a period of quiet reflection, others might feel the need to go on pilgrimage to Buckingham Palace or one of the other royal residences to lay flowers and be with other like minded royalists. Both of those things are fine if that's what floats your boat, but what about the scores of other people who don't want to do that? It doesn't mean we don't acknowledge the 70 years of service she has given to the country just because we don't feel the need to be in mourning for the next 2 weeks, and it doesn't mean we are being disrespectful because we would rather have a football match go ahead rather than be cancelled. You could even argue that having thousands of people standing together tomorrow across the length and breadth of the country in a minutes silence just before 3pm will enable people to show more respect and gratitude for her years of service than sitting at home and feeling sad about her passing could ever do.

Sounds like the PL clubs have made the decision on their own of if the club want to postpone, both clubs have to agree to do so. If not, carry on as intended with the usual tribute service pre game with the likely inclusion of the anthem.

No news on the EFL as of yet. I'd imagine most clubs want to play in the PL, given they are squeezing in fixtures every week until the world cup break, probably don't fancy another mid week game if they can avoid it whilst still showing a tribute.

I understand that has been issued so that the Government is not held responsible for any financial losses incurred as a result of postponing events.

I suspect that this "guidance" will have further complicated the issue for the Premier League and EFL, hence the delay in any announcement.
