We were poor yet won. The oppo managers centre forward is nutting one of their own players and getting sent off. Jose would be proud of such a post match comment. Deflecting the narrative away from your own failings to highlight something else.
Big boy league excuses. Well played Hurst. You’re going down.

You’re right people aren’t happy when we’re losing as we were under McCall, but modern fans are demanding and it’s an entertainment based industry. My comments are based on relatively recent experience. Under Bowyer we were never out of the top 7 yet he was literally hounded out of the club, and tbh so far this football is no more entertaining. The win was the only thing that mattered today. But at half time when we were given a gift of them going down to ten men, to be at home against bottom of the league on top of that I was shocked at just how poor we were going forward. Even our ott positive commentary team were wanting to see more attacking football and sounded bored.

Its a slightly strange one for me. Many of our performances under T&S haven't been what you'd call convincing. Our use of the ball can be disjointed, we look vulnerable on set pieces, which we concede too many of and whilst we look a good side when we do play on the front foot and press teams - we don't do it enough. We seem to give opponents too much respect which doesn't jive with the mindset of a top 3 side. All of which make me question T&S for next season.

And yet, despite the fact that we can all see 2 or 3 areas of the side that need to improve, the league table for the 23 games that T&S have had, would have us top.

Yesterday's starting eleven lacked very little composure on the ball and when we did have possession there was no apparent outlet or spark to conjure up an attack.
Grimsby were made to look a better side at times but failed miserably to capitalise on stupid and needless free kicks given away in good area's of the pitch.
Whilst three points is welcome at any stage of the season yesterday's performance was well below par.
Crawley our next opponents haven't won in seven so at a guess they will pack their defence hoping to hit us on the counter, surely we can muster a team who will go forward over 90 minutes instead of resorting to this evident need to pass the ball back when in the opposition's half.

In early December under Bowyer before the rot set in and he went on the run that got him sacked, there was still a poor atmosphere around the place and we were top 5. People don’t have to agree with me but o don’t enjoy this football one bit as I didn’t then, maybe it’s Covid that has realigned my priorities. But the thought of going back to VP and watching this style of football I’ve watched the last few months doesn’t interest me at all, sport is an entertainment business and an added luxury in life. I get zero enjoyment out of it atm even wins, and I’ll be interested to see if we don’t improve our performance levels when fans are back in their reaction to games like yesterday. Hopefully they just need a full pre season and a few additions to make us more watchable whilst maintaining results however and we’re playing this way due to limited personal and time on the training pitch.

Can't cut it in the big boys club? - what a load of cr@p. We're just outside a playoff spot and they're as good as down. We got lucky yesterday but I know which position I'd rather be in. Grimsby have done f all since his return and I couldn't give a toss what he thinks about us. He's clearly trying to deflect from the embarrassment of yesterday's game!

Yep, Heard he's sending Phil Jones & Eric Bailly to WHU next season to turn them into players

Exactly, both on and off the pitch should have latched on to this - you can bet there are many other League 2 teams who would have been straight in the ref and his officials faces and making sure they knew it should have been a red.
Dont really like saying this is what we should do but this division is not often won by football skills but by a collective unit that knows various ways to win on a football pitch - some skill, pace and also physical dominance is a key at this level, but also mental strength, smartness and 'bossing it' attitude - agree we can be a bit too passive or try to assert ourselves in a way that is not smart enough

I don’t think anyone’s not willing to give them a chance, only critiquing their performance thus far. The signs in performance are concerning and show that the foundations of the results are built on sand. Meaning we could quite easily get beat by 2 or 3, or we could win 1- 0

What they’ve done is commendable no doubt. They regrouped, solidified the defence and got the results, but over that time we’ve been second best mostly. What we’re looking for is how they turn from defensive minded coaches to front foot coaches without leaving us too open. No fans in the ground, you can get away with how we’re playing. Playing this way next season won’t be popular and the voices of discontent will ring loud and clear. 6 or so games left. Go for it and let’s see what the future might hold.

I don't mind admitting that I did too! But I give credit to T&S for turning around our sinking ship

Thanks to them, we'll still be playing in the EFL next season but there's every chance Grimsby won't be. Sparky made the right call.

If they continue getting points at the ratio of 2 per game not many will give a crap when we go up as champions.

Do I want more expansive football? Yes.
Do I want it at the expense of results? Absolutely not.

There's definitely a balance they'll need to find but at the moment I'm failing to see where anyone can suggest any other manager would have accumulated more points than T&S.

If I remember correctly, our resident Hammer was also singing the praises of another young lad, he reckoned was better than both Cullen and Burke. Whatever happened to Declan Rice? Well done @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander , excellent spot.

We go into many games now expecting a result not a defeat, I think they’ve lost a bit of sight on what is actually their best 11, but overall what they are achieving is still outstanding when you look at where we were (looking down) and where we are now (looking up).

It's simple we are safe for another season.
The question is are our present management team deemed good enough with their academy tactical nounce.
I'm pinning my flag firmly to the mast
    NO
Rowe stood on his own down by the corner flag doing nothing the whole of the second half.He should have been called to the bench to explain why and told to sit with our other subs if he was told he wasn't going to play.
Not a happy chap I'd say.

Please please PLEASE, can we thank Trueman and Sellers for saving us from relegation, pay for them to go on a holiday to Benidorm and part company.

Then please can we get rid of the dead wood and employ a proven manager to recruit his own and take us up automatically next season.

That is what we should be doing, aiming for and expecting. Another season in League two - how painful and soul destroying. Blaise, undetermined, zero fight, negative, weak and soft. Embarrassing

I listened to the post match interview with Raynor and was impressed with his honestly. He knows now the squad of players isn't good enough for what he is looking to achieve. It's clear the input of certain players disappoints him, clearly not doing the job he's asked them to do. The best managers in football are ultimately ruthless as are CEOs, Sparks hasn't hidden and has just posted about the need to stand up and be counted of you want to be successful. Fans need to understand you can't just take off the mythical handbrake and suddenly be a promotion team, you need the players to be able to do that and the truth is we simply don't have the quality to do that.

Just seen Mr Sparks Twitter post and I agree with you that he isn’t a happy bunny.

I had my doubts about him but I think he’s the right guy to get us moving in the right direction but it must be all on next season for promotion ,not just promotion but a top three finish.

We can’t spend more than another season in this God awful division and if that means been ruthless in the management front so be it but we also must bring in quality players to stand any chance of moving forward.

    I think Sparks knows this.

    Morning Mike.

A well detailed response and a lot I agree with. Some of those players you list, crikey....

My initial post was in relation to a certain poster on this site, whom said it would take 5 years for the club to recover from the Rahic era. As he 'left' in December 18, we are about halfway through that 'recovery' period.

I thoroughly agree the excuses have to end.
