I wanted Hurst to be appointed originally but you can't argue with those statistics.

 

The loan market can be better utilised though it is a balancing act between wanting to develop your own talent and developing someone elses. When we last went up the players were by and large ours that got us up. League one saw us with the likes of Cullen, Burke, Evans, Pickford but again we have no way to profit sales wise from these. Look at Newport for instance, loan players went back and their form dropped.

 

Thats not to say if Hurst had come here he wouldn't have turned it around. Different circumstances around the clubs, Holloway and the owner had left a basket case of a club behind, Sparks came in with a game plan that Grimsby clearly didn't have. Though how much of Sparks game plan originally included T & S is open to question. In hindsight its clear we had the makings of some sort of first team, just McCall who was clueless as to how to use it.

 

I can't work out whether that is an attempt at a wind-up or if you really mean it. My view is he would have had us still in a relegation battle.

 

He had a much worse squad at Grimsby than T&S had here, They put us to shame at home and he was right in that they should have beaten us after playing us off the pitch at times, T&S have done well with an ultra defensive team playing 4-5-1 and got us out of trouble, Can they build a team that can play attractive football football and still win games? The jury is out on that

 

They were better for the first twent minutes they did nothing after that.not in a million miles would I swap the two. I didn’t want him here in the first place after reading some of the comments from previous clubs we dodged a-bullet there and we unearthed two gems

 

If they continue getting points at the ratio of 2 per game not many will give a crap when we go up as champions.

Do I want more expansive football? Yes.
Do I want it at the expense of results? Absolutely not.

There's definitely a balance they'll need to find but at the moment I'm failing to see where anyone can suggest any other manager would have accumulated more points than T&S.

 

If I remember correctly, our resident Hammer was also singing the praises of another young lad, he reckoned was better than both Cullen and Burke. Whatever happened to Declan Rice? Well done @Interested Bystander , excellent spot.

 

I agree about our style of football being fairly dull but I think that its a system we use based on the squad we have.
T&S may well be looking to change that in the summer with the recruitment.
I also agree that Cooke is no Messi but the inescapable fact is that he's been one of our key players and his absence has coincided with our dip in performances. Performances improved when The Don stepped in but we all no that's no solution. I think the midfield will be top of the recruitment list this summer.
I don't hold that experience is the key to a successful manager. Since I started following the club in 84/85 we've had more 'experienced' managers than you can shake a stick at and apart from Parky none of them delivered success. Yet in that same period rookies Cherry/Yorath, Kammy and Jewell all delivered promotions. You could also add Dolan if you're feeling generous.

 

How did Grimsby put us to shame. City under T&S did the double on Grimsby

 

They ran us ragged, A very lucky win, We were second best even when they had 10 men

on another note talk of T&S to go is beyond ridiculous. 4 or 5 players in the summer would be perfect. Mainly on the defence and I think we’ve got a serious chance of promotion

So our poorest performance of the season, yet Mr Hurst, who Trevor reckons would have done a better job than T&S, still couldn't mastermind a win against us.

The point I was making is that Hurst has not done a good job at Grimsby, he is on the verge of taking them down to non league football

 

Hurst hasn't done a good job. Nobody knows what job he would have done at Bradford, anyone's opinion on that is just pure conjecture. Make no mistake we were shite against Grimsby despite what the likes of Park think, we played better on Tuesday and lost. Worst performance of Truemans tenure. But he's allowed the odd bad one.
