Bloody hell is there someone dictating Sunderland should be promoted. I have just watched highlights of the Blackpool Sunderland game yesterday and Blackpool had the ball even further over the line disallowed

I cant believe how many people seem unaware of what 'over the line' means. Just out of interest would you call this 'over the line'?

That looks borderline but on TV it looked over and Sunderland seem to think they got away with another one

Thats the freeze frame of the tv shot. 'Sunderland seem to think they got away with another one'? What does that mean? The whole of Sunderland? A twitter account? Jack Ross? Their forum certainly dont think it was over.

I'd say that's good last ditch defending

Agreed - this looks like a fair bit of the ball is still overhanging the line, there seems virtually no gap between the line and where the ball is on the grass (although again angles are tricky to judge).

Our ‘goal’ at SoL was further in than this one IMO (in that I thought ours was a goal!).

    It wasn't over the line.

I thought it was at the time though.

Spot on - it's all about the grass you can see between the line and the ball. There needs to be a fair bit for the whole diameter to be over. I'm sure a lot of people here think if the line is visible from the tv angle then it's over the line.

Sunderland took a lot of fans. Its a shame we can’t take that many fans when we play them away. They had 2 full stands worth

Exactly. The overhead angle for the one at the SOL would show similar with a little bit of the ball hanging over the goal line.

and that's why the EFL has to fund putting in place the technology at every ground. Nobody argues with it. I posted in a different forum that the players just get on with it. Makes sense, Do it!

That ball at Man City is in the air though, which is even more deceptive to the naked eye.

The only conclusive proof either way for our ‘goal’ would be Hawkeye, which is installed at SoL but wasn’t in use. You cannot say the ball definitely didn’t go in, just like I can’t say it definitely did.

A SSN recreation/extrapolation/whatever is NOT the same.

If we believe Hopkin/Drury that the ref subsequently apologised, that’s the part that puzzles me. I’d be amazed if a ref in the pro game did that, without knowing for certain a mistake had been made.

It's ridiculous that the technology was available but not in use. Every assistance should be given to the officials, with the aim that it's installed at every ground over a specified period.

It's almost like saying you can't switch on underground heating because not all clubs have it. There is no advantage to the home side, Sunderland in this case, if the officials are given the technology to assist.

I wonder if Hawkeye benefits the home side more as statistically teams get more points at home than away, therefore are more likely to score more goals, therefore have more opportunities to use Hawkeye. Or is it refs without Hawkeye would give those goals to the home team and not the away? Question. Do we think if Sunderland had a similar shot that ref would have given it. Disappointingly I think I know the answer

Hawkeye is impartial so if it's a goal, it's a goal which is what we want. The influence of the home crowd on ref, makes the chances of such incidences to be given as a goal for the home side and no goal for the away side as you suggest.
