Alright lads , Sunderland fan here ,
Just seen you have nearly sold 2000 tickets for Boxing Day , fair play that will be the biggest away following this season at the SOL
Ticket sales are currently at 39,000 with just under a week to go so will be looking at around 41/42,000 come kick off , so should be a decent atmosphere.
There was no deal on the tickets , all tickets are full price but you can buy extra tickets at full price and donate them to the Sunderland AFC charity ( foundation of light) and they will pass the ticket on to underprivileged families in the area that maybe can not afford to go at this time of year , good idea as nearly 1300 extra tickets have been bought through this #givethegiftoffootball
Hopefully after Boxing Day you can string a few results together to get you lot out that relegation zone. All the best

2,100 tickets sold for your lot. Fantastic from both clubs given the positions we both find ourselves in, would be brilliant to get a sell-out 48k crowd.

Officials clearly an absolute disgrace, three game changing incidents completely missed and not giving the goal is just inexcusable. As others have said, there needs to be repercussions for them being so blatantly incompetent.
Anyway onto the game. Thought we were decent enough for a point today, Sunderland were average and we limited them to very very little. Such a shame to give away such a poor goal too.
Defence was okay, caddis had a great 1st half but not so great 2nd. Thought McGowan was great and didn't put a foot wrong. Chicksen was dogshit (shock horror) and NKP was pretty decent too.
Akpan was good, picked up the majority of 2nd balls and his distribution was good. Payne had an off day but still probably should've scored in the 1st half and did score in the 2nd.
Disappointing we played so many long balls as we did today considering how we've played in the last few games but on the few occasions we got it down the side we caused some problems.
Bench is so weak, and it shows how vital January is. Wingers are going to be a necessity to give us a different option.
Overall we were robbed but it's onto Rochdale where 3 points are a must as we need to be beating those sides around us.Ginger Mullet, Nick_W_, Jay and 5 others like this. -

Really looking forward to this one. Hopefully you'll bring a good number up as you always do.
If you've not been up to the best city in the North East before, all pubs are away fans friendly and we're a friendly bunch to talk to. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to The Valley and hope that all those travelling up will have just as good of a day as I did in the reverse fixture. Went out in Bradford for a few hours after the match and every local I spoke to was spot on.
Here's a link to see what the current attendance stands at (not including away fans and corporate). We're looking at getting 40,000+ with away fans added to that. https://www.anewpla.net/sunderland/index.php?g=1
I'll probably check up on here every now and again leading up to the game so if you have any questions just ask. Enjoy your big cup final day out.

Reading it that the lad Maja may be carrying an injury (maybe a Nahki Wells) to get away in January, and Loovens will miss the game with his red card, we need someone to get stuck into both Cattermole and Power early doors to stop them playing both can be a little hot headed, Sunderland have already drawn 4 of the 10 home games let's make it 5 from 11, I'd be happy with a point.

Sunderland seem oberly confident for this one on their forum.
Hope the players feel the same way and we can turn up and spoil the party.

Can't help but feel if this wasn't on boxing day we would be taking even more up. Family committments stop me from going up unfortunately, otherwise me and five others would be up there. Family committments won't stop me from listening though!

If you're staying on the seafront, the Roker Hotel has a decent bar, and there's the Promenade, the Harbour View, etc. There's loads of nice restaurants along there too; the Salt House Kitchen is good, and Fat Buddha is right on the promenade and does decent Asian food. Though I can't think of anything better on a crisp winter's day than getting some proper Fish & Chips and walking along the seafront (try Minchella's on Dykelands Road).
If you're staying in the City Centre, you've got plenty of chain pubs like Cooper Rose, Wetherspoons, Yates, etc. But you could head across to the Sunniside area (just to the East of the City Centre). Lots of decent pubs over there including Sloane's Sports Bar with pool and snooker tables. Nice restaurants too, including Arabesque (Egyptian), Asiana (Asian Fusion) and Angelos (Italian). Over there you've got the usual Nandos, Frankie & Bennys, etc. if you're looking for something a bit more mainstream.
If you let us know where roughly where you're staying, we can give you some good ideas.
In Sunderland in general, there aren't any "Home fans only" pubs; pretty much all of them are quite welcoming of away fans. Obviously if you beat us, just use a bit of common sense post-match. In terms of kids, I can't think of any that would be particularly unwelcoming in the early evening. If you're looking for something specifically friendly for young kids (i.e play areas and the like) then you'd need to head out of the city centre a little. Places like the Brewer's Fayre on Wessington Way for example.
One thing I would recommend for all visiting Away Fans is the Fan Museum on Bridge Street. It only opened this year, is away-fan friendly, kid-friendly and they generally have events on a match day. https://fansmuseum.org
Note that there's also a pre-match Fan Zone on Boxing Day. Should be plenty for the kids to do, and somewhere to have a drink. Though they do tend to cancel them at short notice if the weather is crap.

TV money has effectively ruined the competitiveness of English football due to poor distribution, then they're surprised when the availability of lower league football online is affecting attendances.
If the TV money were more evenly distributed, the costs of attendance could go down, nullifying the impact of being able to watch online.
There's plenty of money in football so that clubs shouldn't be charging £25 for an unattractive, one-among-forty six kinda game, but nope.
Better just to pump hundreds of millions into the Premier League so we look good internationally.
K, cool. Working really well for the international team, isn't it. One good tournament in 40 years. -

Regarding the “goal”, I haven’t calmed down yet. Absolutely fuming.
How both the referee AND linesman didn’t see it I don’t know. That point could cost us.
And Johnny Mac walking around clapping at the final whistle with a big stupid grin on his face made it even worse.
