The new guys won't start today as Hughes will want them to train first so he can get rid of any attacking intent from them.

 

Crichlow, Stubbs, Platt all brought in by current recruitment team.

 

The jury is out on Kelly. Platt is probably at his level and Odusina is nowhere to be seen and can't head a ball. There doesn't seem to be any logic or thought to the recruitment in my opinion. It appears the mantra is to get someone in if they agree, then its, "oh look over there, he's available let's sign him too". Sparks needs to grow a pair and stop wasting valuable funds having squad players who won't get near the first team. Let's hope they've saved some back for January.

 

The squad size is utterly baffling. I was thinking if the surplus players wages last season and the surplus players wages this season were added together we could probably buy 2 very decent players for decent fees.

Interested to see if the 2 new wingers make the 18 today after one training session. I'd just stick with Pointon and Wilson as the two bench options but Hughes might want to throw them in as an unknown.

Imagine Wilson after yesterday? Signs a 3 year deal and within 4 or 5 days they bring in another 2 players for your position. Hope we get enough parking spaces at Apperley Bridge!

 

I could write a library after reading comments this past window. Several in the section “ Fiction” and at a lower level “ Meaningless Drivel” followed by “Comedy” .

 

Not odd at all. Taylor is garbage, Odusina unproven here, Hendrie has gone, Kelly also unproven. Another centre back is needed, especially if Hughes wants to persevere with being able to play 3 Centre backs.

 

yet still some on here think he’s doing a great job ( not talking commercially) at running a successful club. He’s not.

 

exactly but we don’t think like that, we buy cheap and pay twice. Have 0 faith in our recruitment strategy.

 

Could you share your experience and knowledge base to come to such a conclusion ?

 

Imagine the furore on here if Hughes or any manager wanted to sign a player and Sparks overruled him. The CEO job is to support the manager and he he is doing that

 

2019-2020 a 9th placed finish
2020-2021 a 15th placed finished
2021-2022 a 14th placed finished
2022-2023 a 6th placed finished

All of the above in league 2. His primary objective is to lead this organisation out of this league. FACT he has not done that.

All the recruitment specialist brought under Ryan’s stewardship. Look at the number of personnel changes in mangers and recruitment directors. No plan, no strategy, no consistency.

 

Didn’t Hughes say we had a bloated squad (or along those lines) when he joined the club and wanted to reduce the size? Sparks has to keep one eye on the here and now, and one on the future. If this doesn’t work out for Hughes what’s the betting the next guy will have no money to spend and will be hamstrung with a squad full of 2 and 3 year contracted players. We better hope the recruitment works this season, for all our sakes.

 

Im not convinced he will. This weeks activity looks like he will go to a back 4.

I can see 2 or 3 going out to the NL soon on loan.

 

Tulloch was training at 9am. Signing a player and announcing a player arent the same thing.

 

I dont disagree. But its about results so I will judge properly in May.
