I think if Berahino leaves, he will be leaving for more money.

Looks like they want to keep him.

Certainly no hint that he'll be moving DOWN.

Wonder if we’re in for vadaine Oliver of Gillingham. Scored 27 goals in league 1 over 2 seasons in a terrible gills side. Apparently he wants a move up north closer to his roots being from Sheffield.

Here's a good article on Vadaine, and how Steve Evans helped him 'shake off the target man tag'.

I was curious why his goalscoring record was so poor before joining Evans at Gillo, and it seems that's your answer.

So maybe he would be an all round forward that Hughes might like?

Hi guys, seems you’re interested in Liam Gordon one of the players we’ve just released at Bolton. Only 23, a very quick left back and many of us were both surprised and disappointed at his going. Evatt has signed Jack Iredale for that position to compete with Declan John so I suppose Liam was going to be third choice. Would be a really good shout for you and a profitable one if he continues to develop as he could? Good luck next year, it’s a disgrace you’re where you are.

No, it’s not a disgrace, it’s bad management - we are where we deserve to be.
    Thanks anyways.

Interesting. Would suggest that at least one of Ridehalgh or Foulds is going then. Are either out of contract this summer?

EDIT - Ridehalgh under contract but Foulds isn't. Would suggest Foulds is leaving then, if we do that deal.

Just checked and Ridehalgh contracted until 2023. Foulds out of contract June 2022

I'm guessing another overlapping full back, (rather than a full back/centre back of a three) should really push Ridehalgh to the top of his game next season.

The way Hughes looks to play, means we need attacking full backs to provide the width. The wide forwards come in off the flanks and he wants 2 deeper mids. New full backs on either flank and more of an enforcer for one of those defensive midfield positions will be on his radar, I'd think.

Sounds like my idea of Neil Taylor is a complete non-starter then!!

Unless Foulds is kept as a squad utility backup player. Also plays left centre back and could be brought on at defensive midfield to help shore up a narrow lead, like Andy O'Brien was sometimes used. Probably not on big wages.

Possibly so. Although, that sounds like a similar gig to Staunton. Similar age, profiles, cost. Not sure we have the need for both, and having both would probably stunt their development

With the full backs being vital to attacking play is just how football is going these days. Even Gary Neville said he wouldn’t make it at top level these days .

Our current full backs are not quick enough up and down the pitch plus don’t offer much as an attacking threat.

We certainly need better in these areas. 2 new full backs is a must this summer.

Only difference is Foulds plays and Staunton doesn't. Is Staunton good enough? Two managers now have failed to use him.

Fair point, though Staunton still has a year on his contract

Staunton needs a year on loan playing regularly. Blokes going to be 21 this coming season, needs to get more games under his belt. I know he has some stock with fans after having 6 or 7 games looking like a good one in a crap bunch under McCall, but that was so long ago and he hasn't moved forward. Fairly injury prone for his age too, might be from playing once in a blue moon, but needs to start building something in the game.

Was chatting to my missus Grand dad around new years, when City are away he goes to BPA games with his pals and saw Staunton twice in his 4 games loan spell. Brackley and Guiseley games and said Staunton looked poor in both games but especially Guiseley, he apparently looked like the worst defender on the pitch.

Agreed. It would be one or the other. No need for both.

It would have to be Staunton for me. Other clubs higher up than us were tracking him, so must have something that Hughes can nurture, and relatively cheap.
Foulds has never really done anything through his career ,i do not mind him though, steady enough back up. If he could learn to push on and deliver a good cross, then that might be different

Others clubs were tracking him but he went on loan to BPA if I am correct. He is now 20 years old and 2 mangers haven't really rated him.

I see him more as a CB and he might have a future here if POC leaves but as a LB we need better than all we currently have.
