Haggling over incentives

 

Cook, Songo'o & Gilliead wont be leaving, unless they ask for it. Cook and Gilly have been doing promotion videos with our main partner, not a chance thats given the OK if either party is pushing a move. Songo'o maybe?...given he doesn't really have a set slot in the side, but a utility man is useful and will get minutes.

Reckon the 'of age' guys who might leave are limited to Hornby and Threlkeld. Staunton needs a loan, he's 21 at Christmas and his career so far has been the best of a bad bunch for 5 games under McCall and having many injuries. FCD should also be pushed for a loan but reckon he's more likely to be kept around given he can cover RB and CB. Scales probably out on loan too.

I reckon another CM, proabably on loan when Watt officially is given up on. Another CB, another RB if/when Threlkeld leaves and thats probably us. Only moves after that will be replacements if someone goes.

 

I don't disagree. Finances matter though. I'd absolutely be looking to keep him, but if anyone comes in, the decision will be at least partly informed by his salary, any fee involved and whether Hughes thinks he could get better use from the funds.

 

We’ve just two loans so far haven’t we? The two Hudds lads.
So a loan centremid and right back might be what we see in terms of balancing costs and when squads are more settled

 

Loans have their place yes, but loans have to go back, loans don’t generate onward selling fees and loans can be cut short in Jan for example. They have their place but I don’t want to end up with half a team of loanees like some L2 clubs survive on.

 

Not convinced we sign another CM when we have Smallwood, East, Sutton, Gilli and possibly Songo (if we get another CB) and Odasebe who can play there. Currently 6 options for 2 places.

 

I agree, Smallwood automatically improves our CM from last season.

I’d be going out to try get a quality RB, and no not a loan one that could be part of our defence in this league and above. Wonder if we’re looking at that lad who Pompey let go who was mentioned on here?

 

Callum Johnson? Would be another quality signing if there is any truth to the rumour.

 

Aye that’s him, cheeky little Bradford end dropped his name in but don’t know if there was anything other than that to it.

 

Johnson, Odusina, Dion and we are done for me. I'm ok with starting the season Angol, Harratt and Cook fighting that striker role. With Jake Young if needs must too.

Obviously if a top striker becomes available and it is dooable then go for it but wouldnt be signing anyone for the sake of it now.

 

I would like to see Freddy Jeffreys brought into the squad. Lets make space for the youth to get exposure and some minutes

Must have missed Moncur or just forgot as thought it’s too unrealistic, but good we are putting our names in the hat for these type of players rather than thinking no point trying they’re out of our league before they end up at Swindon or Mansfield…

I remember Hughes saying similar last month about we want to be in the picture to get the best players and even if they don’t come off it’s better than them going to a divisional rival and thinking what might have been. As with Longstaff for instance, we would have actually been closer and commutable for him yet Mansfield got him and apparently didn’t even have to contribute to his wages.

 

Lost a few have Mansfield. Longstaff wont be returning and Bishop and Murphy have returned to their parent clubs.

 

Ordinarily I would agree but I think of the Bellingham brothers, Milner. I would like us to potentially keep our potential and if they see a route to the first team this may help. If we can have a successful team on a roll,that's the environment to bring them into, not an Adams kick and rush struggling at the wrong end
