With the odds of them not making the grade/making the grade and the wages you'd need to pay them, you can see why £250k with various add on's and a sell on clause is appealing to the club.

 

I can. I'd like to think that we have first dibs on development loans, but that'll depend on the league we're in.

Its just a shame that all these young lads are hoovered up and put into academy and then U23 sides for 6 or 7 years. Some of these types of lads would benefit hugely from breaking through into L1/2 sides at young ages and playing first team football.

 

I'd love to see us getting young talent into our first team and selling on, but how realistic is it ? By selling at the age we have on players like Delph/ Cleverley/ Wisdom and latterly McBurnie etc, I think we get the best of both worlds. No development costs but a share of a bigger pie.

The days of PL teams paying millions for a 19 year old who has made 20 fits team appearances are gone. WE remove the risk that they won't make it and the player becomes better by being coached at a higher level. It's a win/ Win for me.

 

I don't think those days are gone, but fewer and fewer players of real talent an potential stay with lower league clubs beyond the age of 16, or thereabouts. Taking the cash now and maximising the add-ons is inevitable. Its just a little sad. If we had a Stuart McCall now, at 16, he wouldn't have chance to get near the first team. He'd be off well before then.

Also, we're selling to clubs who are themselves selling clubs. If the other lad does well at Brighton, a top 6 club will come after him meaning we're likely to get the sell on. When you sell to a Manchester United they rarely seem to sell on. They seem happy to let contracts run down then release for free.

 

If the conveyor belt continues and the funds are wisely reinvested into the first team and we climb up the leagues we’ll have the opportunity to start playing them more. We do still have the pizza cup too for chances.
Out of curiosity I know we released Sudeneki (which surprised me a bit) but as he had trial elsewhere if he signs for someone would we be due compo or just minor development sell on if he moves for a few in future?
The other concern as it were could be Drury getting poached as he’s proving himself as a very good youth coach

 

We didn't offer him a new deal so we would get very little.
