The compensation will be minimal and I honestly can't see that being a sticking point if a higher club really wanted him.

It's more likely that these clubs have a few options and are waiting to see how they play out before making a firm commitment.

Might not be. There was a really good post with a link to an article explaining it with some actual examples a while ago. We may get £100k given he's been pretty much ever present plus additions based on appearances. It isn't as insignificant as I thought it would be anyway.

I certainly hope so BB. It would come in handy and perhaps even explains the suggested larger budget if something has already been agreed and we're confident of a decent fee coming in.

For many clubs, it's the uncertainty of having to go to a tribunal to determine the compensation if a fee cannot be agreed between the clubs beforehand. We fell foul of this when we recruited Mark Stewart on a 'free' from Falkirk about 10 years ago. We believed the compensation was zilch but a tribunal then awarded Falkirk about £200k plus sell on fees! We even appealed it to the Court of Arbitration in Sport but with little joy. That was an expensive lesson for us.

I think you need to lower your expectations. Bradford End posted the other day that any compensation to be paid is weighted heavily in favour of Wolves and we stand to make a 'pittance' from it.

Funny, the money Wolves will receive will probably pay the weeks wage of one of their better players. Crazy money at the top level.

    Found the post...

Have you read the above post? I was of a similar view to you but the above article made me think otherwise.

If you've read the above and you still agree with your post then fair enough but when I read the examples on the article what it tells me is that even if someone did the hard yards developmentally, we took a chance to get him in and have played him consistently, giving him the opportunity to really become a first team player and he was integral to the team in that he played almost every game. We have a very strong case actually so it would be interesting to see what data points or articles Bradford End has that would suggest Wolves would get more than us.

Yeah, I saw it and felt quite optimistic we'd get a decent amount until I read Bradford End's post! Maybe I'm attaching too much credibility to it, but BE does seem to have a level of 'insider' knowledge.

I'm pretty sure i read when we signed him from wolves, that they would get a percentage of any money we got for him for development fees. That's just the same as would happen for us if he does sign for someone else but they wouldn't get all of the money just a good bit of it.

I think that was our mistake over when the '24 year old' triggered. We thought he was a free as he was 24 but he was only 23 on a certain date which meant we had to pay. I may be wrong, it was a while ago!

Hopefully Watt money and money from the young lad who went to Brighton is given to the transfer pot and may see some transfer signings as well as frees-pay a fee for decent player our level or up and comer from below

I asked about contracts the other day amd someone reckoned our contracts expire on 30 June so unless we've agreed to release him then he's still a City player for 19 days at least!

We've paid fees for 2 of our signings so far and if we sign the boy from Hartlepool, compensation will be due.

Players' contracts do normally lapse on 30 June. But that isn't the same timescale for a new offer. Much would depend on how much the club wanted to hang on to the player and how long they are willing to wait for a response from the player.
