You can't blame them for exploring options at a higher level. Its a short career. The fact they haven't been snapped up yet though, does suggest that the level of interest and/or financial terms aren't what they were hoping for....

Agree that they're replaceable, however our recruitment performance for a while has been poor. New recruitment team and all that, but I'd still like to see Watt and Vernam stay. Doesn't look like likely, but you never know.

 

All 3 are decent, but I’ll be interested to see where they end up and how the clubs fans react. I’m picturing this forum and Twitter when we were in league 1 signing OOC players from a team that ended 15th followed by 14th in league 2. I wonder if they’ll come out with the same phrases

Its all you can do with out of contract players I suppose. Fact is, we are happy to bin off players we don't want so guess we have to take the rough with the smooth as well.

I did say at the time, paying a fee for Vernam and only offering him an 18 month deal was bizarre. Surely 18 months with an option of a further year would have made more sense.

 

I think the fact some clubs will have to pay a fee for Watt might be a sticking point. If the rumours on Vernam wanting to be closer to Grimsby are true then he is pretty limited in his options as well. Hull won't be interested, Scunthorpe won't be desirable so only leaves Lincoln and Doncaster really....he is from Lincoln, one could assume a Lincoln fan.

 

The fact that the offers are still on the table and in Watts case any club wanting his services would have to negotiate a fee means that nothing is settled yet with all three of them. One or all may still put pen to paper

 

You are in denial if you don't think the club has a strategy on releasing news. And it is not even worth discussing.

And its easy for me to say, but I honestly think that the best thing for Watt's development is to stay here for at least another 12 months. He'll play regularly, under an excellent coach, at a level he can excel.

 

True but the rumours are Wigan and Pompey are interested. Hard to compete with them two.

Probably right, but I think if Vernham does go to Lincoln he's making a mistake in terms of the development he could get under Hughes v what he could get against a manager at Lincoln who has only been a head coach for 15 EFL matches.
