No chance Adams would entertain a player with that attitude even if we could afford him

 

Doncaster gave him a contract. They need to honour it before he short changes himself. He isnt forcing a move.

Its a short expiration date. Bills to pay and the money stops in your 30s. These guys aint earning millions.


Would you leave your job to do the same thing for less money? How hard is it to relate and understand?

 

What are you not blaming him for? Adams has confirmed we were never in for him.

 

"Not in for" - a phrase that has many meanings.

If it means "we didn't make an offer" then I'd believe him.

If it means "we never spoke with Doncaster or the player's agent about the potential of signing him" then id find that very hard to believe. After all, on paper, he's exactly the type of player we should be scouting and looking to sign so not speaking to Donny/his agent would actually be a poor reflection on us trying to move the team forwards.

 

They gave him a contract presumably based on maintaining a certain level of fitness, commitment, attitude and performance. If any of these are lacking then Doncaster are right too offload him. Yes he has a contract, but if he wants to play football his agent should find him a club and then negotiate a full settlement for the remaining part of his contract. Wellens normally gets the best out of strikers, but for whatever reason it’s not working with this lad.

 

Who wants someone who instead of playing football at the peak of his career is content to waste away with the stiffs

 

Or maybe he wants to stay and fight for his place? That the wrong attitude too?

Personal circumstances too. Family settled, schools, mortgage etc. Its very short sighted to assume he can just up and move. We dont know the club he rejected. If the rumour mill is right and its Swindon - that aint on Doncasters doorstep.

 

I dont disagree about the settlement part. If Donny aint willing then he shouldn't either. Has to be mutual.

 

He's had 8 clubs in the last 4 years and done nothing of note at any of them. The clubs he has been at have wanted shut of him very quickly, and the fans of the clubs he has left have been glad to see the back of him. I'm not sure that on paper, he is the type of player we should be scouting. You may be right and at some point we may have considered him, but I would think with due dilligance, he will have been quite quickly discarded from the list.

 

The double standards when ot comes to clubs and players is quite astonishing. If a player wants to force through a move elsewhere, he is deemed a mercenary and can only move on the clubs say so because he has a contract.

Seems clubs are ok to move on players though and the player needs to simply accept it and club not honour the contract.

In the last 5 years Lavery has been contracted to Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Walsall, Bradford and had loans at Pompey, Rotherham and Bury. Not a million miles off.

I agree, if a player hasn't broken the terms of his contract but the club decide they want to move him on, they have a responsibility to make up any shortfall the player may incur by making that move. However, without knowing what the two clubs in for Bogle offered him, and what Doncaster said they were prepared to do to make sure he isn't left out of pocket, how do we know it is double standards? Bogle might have said no because the move would have left him worse off financially, or he may have been offered a deal on the same money with Doncaster making up any shortfall for the remainder of his contract, and he may have said no to it because he doesn't want to move, even though he has been told he is not wanted at Donny. We just don't know.

 

Thats true. But he is being hung, drawn and quartered by some because he didnt accept the move. Mind made up - he has an attitude, even though Wellens said he was a decent bloke and good pro. Like I said earlier - its a sales pitch but he wouldnt lie, could just leave that part out if he was problematic.

 

True, but they both appear to be players with a point to prove, something Adams seems to really like. I don't know if Bogle has the same attitude or not, but it's a moot point anyway because we weren't in for him.

 

Well those doing that are daft then, given nobody knows where he was offered a move to!
