Difference is though McCall is no Adams and Billy Clarke was a lazy lazy signing and truly past it. NKP and Mellor were ok but it was clear something was wrong at VP at the time and that’s been the case for a while, players come with reputations, flop and want to get away. Riley seems to be doing ok at Carlisle and Omari Patrick has got a move to L1. I reckon AOC will do well at Morecambe too, he needed to move on from City for his own sake.

The signings so far have been very meh, Angol and Kelleher especially, let’s hope the manager can mould them in to a team

 

Agreed. Adams has talked about having several tactical/formations available, which is good to hear. But he's most known for favouring a lone target man with fast wide players cutting in. We now have the latter in spades. But it seems inconceivable that we would go into the season with no cover for Cook as target man.
It's not clear what role Adams envisages for Angol. I suspect he'll mainly be a bench option if we want to switch to two up front, or possibly as a wide striker in a front three. The one thing he isn't is a target man so there's an obvious need for another big forrad as cover/competition for Cook.

 

I don’t think cook is an out and out target man I don’t think he holds the ball up that well the only player who could do that last season was Donaldson

Think we all agree the signings have been meh but how do they compare with other league 2 teams? Clearly DA is building what he sees as a team with a work ethic which is what Parky did in this division. Parky of course had a bit of luck as we had the division's best striker already here. Hope we can collectively reproduce those goals.

 

Well, if that's the case it probably explains why his scoring record has dropped off in the last few seasons. Despite his height, his heading isn't great and his main attributes are his ability to beat a man and find the net.
Sounds like he may have been misused, in the same way that we misused Doyle and Vaughan - trying to turn front- facing strikers into back to goal target men.

 

He also added players like Davies and others who had / were playing at a higher level.

 

Yes spot on Parky had the same work ethic.

Very highly rated by who? They were both L1 players. At Shrewsbury and Blackpool.

 

I still smile at the mention of his name. I remember sitting on a coach returning from Stamford Bridge when a car sped past us with horn blurting. Andrew was hanging out of the passenger window, cheering and waving his arms.

 

NKP was nicknamed Rolls Royce at Shrewsbury, because he was so classy, and was seen as a good capture when we signed him. In SM's playoff season NKP was an integral part of a very good defence - especially when playing alongside Vincelot. His form dropped off the following season, along with that of many others, once Rahic's reign of terror got properly underway and morale throughout the club went down the toilet. It's no surprise to me that NKP did well at Morecambe under a good manager in a happy squad.

 

At this point, I fully trust the judgement of DA and the players he has signed. Something I couldnt have said for Stuart or Bowyer. Time will tell if he is right and I hope certain people end up with egg on their faces for writing off everyone we sign before seeing them play.

Sadly a club in a higher division than us, as are both NKP and Mellor.

 

No one is suggesting that he is Rio Ferdinand. But if you can't see that NKP is a quality lower division CB whose form was badly affected by our catastrophic Rahic period, then that's your problem. Adams clearly could, which is the point at issue.

 

The trouble is it only takes one bad game before they are written of on here in one or two cases even before that

 

Its hardly a glowing reference for a very highly rated player...
