Why not? Players get a wage increase if they get promoted, why do you think it's odd that the opposite would happen if they get relegated?

I think you’re right, especially regarding Doyle. This contract was his last big payday and he won’t want to give it up easily. His form this season is hardly going to get him him a pay rise for next season.

Regarding the reduction in salary, who knows what Rahic agreed to. He may well have agreed to anything to get him in, because the clock was ticking regarding Wykes move to Sunderland.

Doyle has played like a man who won’t exactly bust a gut for the team and the number of times he’s been dropped or taken off, should mean he’s got the 9.05 appointment after O’Connor at 9.00.

Why would a club want to pay 3k a week for Doyle?

I don't believe this 25% wage reduction and even if it's true then some like Doyle will still be on most what Div 1 players are on.

You're dreaming if you think most of the contracted players are leaving.

You've also x 52 weeks which is wrong it will be by the rest of his contract plus any bonuses owed.

Think we need get realistic. These contracted players are in control.

Anyway, it's up to Bowyer to make them better. Some will become better with better players around them and leaders.

    Rahic!

And if you're paying the likes of Doyle 5k plus for example then that highlights to me the agents were fully in control of player negotiations and I doubt most would agree to a 25% wage reduction.

    Me too
They didn't play as if a,quarter of next years wage were "on the line"
Surely if this was true a modicum of effort would have been shown

    And this.

Me too...I didn't see a squad of players playing like 25% wage reduction was on the line.

I don't believe all the contracted players will leave but I think Doyle will be one of the ones that does, along with O'Donnell and Akpan. I'm not sure about Scannell and McCarten - I think they will both want out but whether they'll get any takers is a different matter. I think Sykes-Kenworthy, Gibson and Patrick will either have their contracts terminated by mutual consent or be shipped out on season long loans. Reeves and Robinson are tricky to call because of unknown circumstances around their futures but I could see both of them still being at the club next season. I think Bowyer will want to keep Wilson, Mellor, Staunton and Wood and I think there's a good chance Wright, Riley and O'Connor will still be here next season, not because they are wanted but because no other club will take them.

This is based on nothing other than gut feeling.

Maybe, they don’t care about the 25%, they want away before their careers go down the drain at the end of their contract here; plus they won’t be playing, or only when nobody else is available.

This is div 1 & 2 football. It's about wages.

Most are not millionaires at this level.

25% wage reduction matters. If you don't care about 25% wage reduction then come and work for me and I will cut your wages by 25% and make you wash my Merc everyday.

But you said that wages at LG 1/2 level are high.

As quoted £5000 a week equates to £260,000 so therefore a reduction of 25% will be approx £65,000. He has a two year contract, and we agreed to pay him just over 1/2 million. How old is he? I doubt he is ready to flush his career down the pan if he can get a contract elsewhere?

No I said paying 5k plus a week on wages for a div 1 or 2 player is high.

    Don't get what you mean.

Players have loyalty bonuses that will need paying.

Yes well he most certainly doesn’t deserve any loyalty payments. Plus more likely to have a goal bonus in lieu of loyalty bonus being a striker.

So what you’re saying is you believe the comments from Tim Thornton, who is a fan and a broadcaster, who gets an occasional interview with the club. But not the comments from Simon Parker, a journalist who gets regular interviews with all parts of the club?

Sorry not heard what Tim Thornton has had to say?

As for Parker he rarely writes an exclusive so it's hard to believe someone that doesn't.

All I am saying is I doubt the agent accepted a 25% wage reduction for relegation in the summer or under Rahic ownership. Would you accept a quarter reduction on your wage? That's a lot of money.

Yes well it is a cut throat business. Look at like an insurance policy for the club. We hand him a big fat contract, we add a generous goal bonus because we want him to score goals, but if we get relegated it will be partly down to not scoring enough goals, that is his job, so we will put in a 25% reduction clause, but still a big salary for a no goal striker in LG 2.

You started this whole debate by claiming the Pulse had stated Doyle was on £5k+. Tim Thornton equals The Pulse. Do keep up...!

My job has no bearing on what a footballer gets. If I fail at my job, I’m given extra coaching. If still no improvement, I’m sacked. Would a footballer sign a contract to that affect? No, but it’s common practice to have increases/decreases for promotion/relegation.

Yes it is and still decent wages for a div 2 player but that's why if true I doubt he will be looking to leave any time soon.

All I am saying is that the contracted players are in control not the club.

A lot will depend if they want to stay at the club. If they do then they're staying
