Yo've got to love Darragh MacAnthony. I'm not a Peterborough fan but i admire what he does and how he goes about running his football club. All this guff about it being not fair and being bad for football, no one was saying that at City when Geoffrey Richmond was splashing the cash, it was great time to be a Bradford fan. I'd love to see our club speculate like MacAnthony has this pre season, instead i'm trying to get excited about a from the eighth tier of english football and a keeper that can't get a game at Port Vale.

It'll be worse mate because it will be taking place in the winter. That's not the time a World Cup should be taking place, it just isn't right.

Fleetwood paid a six figure fee for Jamie Vardy when they were in non league, they've paid for a training facility of their own that blows ours out of the water. This spending of money isn't anything new BB.

RT I don't disagree that Darragh is doing the best for his football club and I'm not saying that spending cash means success. What I'm saying that every time something like this happens it inflates the fees/wages to the bottom of the EFL pyramid, I think we'll see some struggling this season with player demands if they don't have a wealthy backer.

They’d spent that based on players sold so no major loss to posh.

The top teams are in a different league to us and can spend that much money as they are raking in almost 500 million a season in sponsorship, tv money etc.

And PSG are backed with tonnes of money. Doesn’t matter to them. They can afford it

It was a small 6 figure though sum wasn't it? He was getting paid £850 a week at Fleetwood, nothing in comparison to what players demands are now, again I'm not saying it's anything knew I'm saying the money being thrown about now is going to have detrimental effects on the rest of the EFL and I think we'll soon the aftermath soon

Think you're missing my point How, Posh have done well with the player recruitment and clearly investing back but this is a league one club paying £1.5 million pounds??? Players demands will change on the back of events like this.

Look at the list that have gone to China recently, hasn't Dembele from Spurs just gone there? Ramos was considering it last/this summer.

Reasons to believe and reasons not to.I spent a lot of time at Rushden when Griggs was building the Stadium and the fantastic facilities attached to it. It was the blueprint of it's time and was not evolved in a financially reckless manner,I believe at the time it was akin to a few pence on a pair of DM's. Sad and unbelievable to witness it's demise since though. I remember various pros paying a visit and in particular, George Best remarking what a great facility it was.

As I’ve said it’s not new for league one clubs.

Sheffield untied paid 2 million for a defender in this league in 2014.

Peterborough paid more for Assombolonga a few years ago.

Wigan spent 1.3 on grigg and 1.2 for Reece James for when they were in this league.

Most sides get promoted if they spend big but it’s not a guarantee. Wigan continue to yo-yo. Peterborough still in league one.

Peterborough spend it knowing they can sell them for more if they do well. It works for them.

If other clubs try and copy more fool them. That’s poor ownership. No one else to blame

What you are saying is correct but it doesn't make it right. Look at the premier league and championship and the amount of players being paid way over what they are worth - just because certain clubs can afford to do that. For an example of that close to home you only need to look at Butterfield, reportedly on 30k a week at Derby. I didn't see anything from him whilst he was with us to suggest he is worth anywhere near that, did you?

You're right. The two key factors driving up wages at the highest level are the TV revenue and the private investment at clubs like PSG, City and Chelsea. Its completely distorted the playing field and the effects are cascading down the Leagues - the combined operating loss for championship clubs this season is £510m. That's an average of 24m for each club. In one season. That's completely unsustainable and to be honest, makes it pointless us even trying to get there.

Absolutely correct @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam. It’s alright ppl saying they admire club owners doing this and others say it has always been this way. However, hands up for the extinction of several clubs who don’t have a wealthy owner in tow? Oh and btw City would be one of them!

If this is not addressed any time soon expect a number of clubs go out of business.

Man Utd bought the league for pretty much a decade and no-one batted an eyelid, they only started whingeing when someone came in and suddenly they couldn't buy the best players in the league at the end of the season. Of course, you have to allow for the fact they had a golden generation in the class of '92 but had they not also been able to steal the top talent of the rest of the country for a decade it would have been much more difficult for them. Just look at the dominance of Bayern and Juve in their respective leagues, for example.

That's not quite the same thing though. No way should the final have been played there, and it was almost certainly due to copious bribery that it was, but it's different from the question of whether money should be allowed to be invested in football or if each team should purely have to go off gate receipts

It's hardly political correctness, it's corruption... if it was about political correctness then neither Qatar or the final in Baku would have happened. Nor Russia

Such a weird example to use Peterborough, they've been the opposite of buying the league... they've generated that cash by having superior scouting and contacts, selling players and reinvesting the money. Whether selling your best players every season is the best way to move forward is a different matter, of course...
