The laughable part of my comment was in relation to people stating, 'he was woeful against us at their place'. 45 mins does not provide the foundation of a strong argument.

I'm not aware he was laughed out of Plymouth? Admittedly he didn't get the game time he would have hoped for, but to step up a level after only half a season in the league below indicates the boy has potential. Something to take confidence from.

You yourself admit he ESTABLISHED himself at a decent level. I suspect he will be part of Hughes consideration for a starting position, particularly based on his progress and performance last season. But that might not be the case, however, if he was good enough for a 'promotion chasing League 2 side' last season then we should view this signing with a degree of confidence without getting ahead of ourselves.

I don't get how folk on here can write him off or claim that he's the next so-and-so.
Until he kicks a ball for us in anger none of us know how good or bad he maybe.
As the warning says when buying stocks and shares 'past performance is no guarantee of future results'

I was watching Burnley v Blackburn on sky yesterday and they brought up Blackburn playing out of the back(sometimes in a tight spot!) and it did remind me of us. However the commentator made an interesting point on why, and that was because in modern football it can attract better players and also adds value onto players when looking to resell. I thought back to Parkys era and although very successful, other than Wells who did we develop and sell on? Nobody in reality and you need to be able to especially as a lower league self funding side.

Although our style can frustrate I believe there is method behind it, those wanting more kick and rush would do well to think about it and how we have attracted good players like Banks and Wright. Under Parkinson attracting good attacking players on loan was always the hardest area or permanent for that matter as we never really replaced Wells. Not a dig at Parkinson but IBS above just made me think again about playing a style suited to higher up, imo it will reap its rewards should we be patient and stick at it long term.

Problem? Platt has been part of a very successful back four. What is the mania with folk looking for a scapegoat?

No brainer to sign him up if we can. Been excellent for us this season and will improve. I've no doubt he can step up to the next level

Both Platt and Stubbs have their limitation with pace but both are natural leaders and can read a game. Platt is an honest league 2 centre back but needs a leader figure at the side of him.

    Hmm, respectfully disagree.

I mean, yes, there is 'pace' and then there's Smallwood/Clayton levels of slow. Someone running from the central midfield positions would draw players away from the wingers, and at least prevent them from doubling/tripling up like teams were doing to Banks towards the end of the season.

Gilliead has that pace but not the pedigree, he's a utility man through and through now he's no longer a winger.

I think now Clayton is gone Smallwood should stay, but he clearly needs more athletic partners for me. We need at least one box-to-box midfielder, and I pray that's not going to be Gilly.

Aerially, we're not a big team, which is suicidal in this division. From the team that started at Carlisle, I'd say only Stubbs and Cook are strong in the air, Critchlow at a push but he's a better defender when the ball is on the floor. Contrast that with Carlisle (and 99% of the other sides in this league) and they have 5-6 aerial threats minimum. Its not a surprise our set piece record is crap.
