I'll admit Stubbs and Paudie seem pretty interchangeable.

Good in the air, bit slow, all right on the ground.

But it took us 6 months to replace Paudie properly, as Platt isn't that level.

Both Platt and Stubbs have their limitation with pace but both are natural leaders and can read a game. Platt is an honest league 2 centre back but needs a leader figure at the side of him.

I don't think there's a massive amount in it between Platt and Paudie if I'm honest.

Paudie has played at the higher level so I suppose there's that angle but from what I've seen with my own eyes, they've both got similar abilities and their glaring deficiencies.

Agreed, how often when a club has had an unspectacular season does a CB get the player of the season award? 0 GD as well so unlikely their forwards were firing on all cylinders. To be fair to Paudie he was a trier and a hot head, that often goes down well with supporters. Similar CBs are tenner penny in league 1 and 2.

He’s also posted on Cooks announcement as well as a big montage of City highlights today.
He’s not daft and will know exactly why people will read into it.
I’ll be surprised if he isn’t back with us on a perm.

Look at the guys twitter, he's just a City fan that tweets a lot of stuff that's turned out to be nonsense. Or tweeted things that were known by everyone under the sun connected to City.

Is that a reliable/genuine twitter account, if it is we must be pretty confident of getting him.

It'd be more of a surprise if we hadn't offered him a deal for me. I wouldn't be unhappy if we went into next season with pretty much the same defence. I think we could do with genuine competition for the right and left back slots though. It's the midfield that really needs attention as others have said we need some pace, goal threat and mobility in there.

I don’t think we need a CM with pace. That’s what wingers are for.
What we lacked last season was creativity and goal threat. It was all too slow getting the ball out wide to players who could hurt the opposition.
We lost the creativity when Watt left but he offered no goal threat.
It’s a tough challenge to pick up a CM for free that has the things we lack.

    Hmm, respectfully disagree.

I mean, yes, there is 'pace' and then there's Smallwood/Clayton levels of slow. Someone running from the central midfield positions would draw players away from the wingers, and at least prevent them from doubling/tripling up like teams were doing to Banks towards the end of the season.

Gilliead has that pace but not the pedigree, he's a utility man through and through now he's no longer a winger.

I think now Clayton is gone Smallwood should stay, but he clearly needs more athletic partners for me. We need at least one box-to-box midfielder, and I pray that's not going to be Gilly.

Of course we have a wish list and hope that one player can tick all the boxes but we are in league 2 and finding that player who is affordable and available is impossible so there has to be a sacrifice of a certain skill set.
I mentioned Jonny Williams in an earlier post and some said he was ‘past it’ but he’s available and affordable with very good pedigree and has played at international level.
He’s only 29 and bagged 10 goals this season in a poor Swindon side including a cracking header against us.
Realistically who else do we think we can bring in? Maybe Kevin De Bruyne?

Could drop Walker back into Midfield and bring in a new No.10 to get more goal threat.
