Well worth it.

 

Return visit to the Moorcock in Norland, near Sowerby Bridge, last night.

Never eaten from the bar menu previously but they've ditched the tasting menu for now so a good chance to do it.

It's a unique offering. Excellent bread, as per, and then such delights as stuffed pigs tails and wood-baked cod collar amongst other good things.

One big profiterole was shared for dessert, stuffed with a 'squash cheesecake mousse'. For someone not into anything too sweet, it wer grand.

Arms were twisted to get another dish which proved completely unnecessary and we ended up leaving loads.

Yes, we got the remains bagged up, and yes, we forgot and left the bag in the bar.

I think we have discussed kiplings at greengates a fair bit previously on this thread but went a couple of weekends ago and it was really good again. Back to its best. Recommend it to anyone

4 of us and a variety of curries and beers. Even got a free jug of cobra thrown in. Great service and good food. Worth a go if you’re nearby

 

That's good to hear. I absolutely loved the Moorcock tasting menu. I hope they reinstate it when things get fully back to normal.

Anyway already booked in early next month. Makes a change from yet another Greek/Turkish/Mediterranean place around this area.
Did you also spot the Little Monk over the road from the Forde? German and Belgian bar with a continental menu. It was closed the only time we tried to go but sounds interesting even if the place looks a little basic. Lots of people also raving about a place on New Road Side called Brontaes. Food looks interesting but again the place looks a bit stark. Lots going on in Horsforth at the moment. Maybe Fordy can organise a team night out?

 

Managed to get a table this Saturday at The Forde117, for a pre-visit prior to going with friends next month.

Returned to the Angel at Hetton last weekend. Price-wise it's definitely one to file under "treat".

I know @Offcomedun wasn't keen but as much as I liked the old look and feel it was on the dated side. For better or worse it's completely different.

(That said, the miserable old git who used to work the bar is still there and is still a miserable old git. Somethings never change.)

Our room rate included 3 courses. For extra dollar we could've done the tasting menu but I get a bit bored by them now.

Snacks and bread firsr, then a spot of fish, v nice. Some fancy pigeon, superb. 'Inbetweener' course of chicken was great. Desserts very elegant.

The bloke looking after us, as it goes, was from Bradford and is a Bantam.

Breakfast, as @Meltham Massive said, is a bit much when you just fancy a sausage sarnie but heyho, we endured the good pastries and the excellent bacon. Picture below.

 

Agreed - it sits nicely between 'food destination' and 'proper boozer'.

 

Going to a very pretentious restaurant in London tonight. Circolo Popolare. Absolutely shite menu , fruit on nearly all pizzas , you would get deported if you did that in Italy. I have no say unfortunately so I’ll expect to be surprised but I’m highly doubtful.

 

Nothing wrong with a bit of fruit on your pizza - i’ve eaten in classic, rustic Neopolitian pizzeria’s and had nutella and banana pizza for pud…delicious.

 

Disingenuous Italian pizza. You would be killed by the Mafia in Napoli if you ordered that over there.
